I just found this.
"For people who don't speak Japanese, there are 2 main things to understand:
1) Ichiro did not specify Korea in his comments. They were directed to towards Japan's opponents in pool play.
2) Phrases like "that's ten years too early" are extremely common in Japanese. While such phrases are uncommon in English and therefore sound more meaningful, in Japanese it's a cliche.
All Ichiro was saying was that he not only wanted to win in the Asian pool, he wanted to dominate. So he basically said that he'd like Japan to win."
I would hope everybody who participates in sports has that same attitude or I really don't know what the sense in playing is. Personally at least.
The only real poster board material of the entire WBC was mistranslated crap.
As much as it's entertaining to watch you all flame each other and make Ichiro's comments some kind of declaration of war, I just thought maybe a couple of you would actually like to know the truth once in a while.
