Oh yeah, NYU is pricey. I have full ride to Rutgers, but I'm not going. I basically have nothing everywhere else. We don't qualify for need-based aid and most of my colleges don't give merit scholarships. They seem to think my family will have no problem paying $45,000 a year.. I got a few small work-study jobs, but that's all. =/ Scholarship time!

i've received all of my financial aid packets and after seeing all of them.. i'm pretty depressed. out of 6 schools... 4 of them i still need to pay $20,000+ and 1 of them is around 15,000-20,000 and the other one is below $10,000, which just so happens to be the school i least want to go to.

most of my schools only gave me about 10K which is only about 1/3-1/4 of what i really have to pay. and i don't really qualify for those need-based scholarships. bleh. it sucks because i have to pay for everything myself, why do colleges assume that parents actually have an extra 30K lying around every year for their child to spend on college. my parents are contributing 0% to my college education

well this is my tentative financial aid because the people at jhu did something wrong on my file. booty. estimated cost of attendence for jhu is about 48k and my tentative amount of aid is 44.4k....hopefully it's going to go up since my efc is 0.

^ wow... why do you need to ask for more aid??? that's PLENTY...... and like.. how is your cost 48k? even schools like columbia and northwestern are cheaper than that.

i have about $15,000 a year i need to pay.. and i'm appealing that. i have two loans to pay for NU and only one loan for Rice.

i wish I only had to pay about 4k a year. how on earth is your EFC 0? whenever i read your xanga you wrote about how you go shopping and stuff at nice stores.. lol...

well like 2,500 is loans and 2,500 is work study. both of which i'm not going to do so my parents basically pay like 8k.

lol and my parents own a business so we can file that we make less than we actually do when we give all of our tax stuff to our cpa. andddddddd i expect more this year because my parents didn't work for like 6 months so we had no income. that's why i expect more money from them haha.

next year i'll be paying a crapload more. sucks.

oh and i dont have all of the cost breakdown things handy but i do know that they raised the tuition to 33900 which is a huge chunk.

hm we still have to pay 25k+, but that's not too bad i think. one of my friends got a 2500 federal stafford loan...and nothing else lol.

anyway, i read that usc's cost of attendance is rising every year by 5-6%, so next year, it'll probably be 48-49k.

yeah i have to pay $19,000 a year for NU and that's too much for my family. our 2005 income was horrendous because my dad didn't work for a while and they gave me so little compared to the aid necessary. if it is 19k when my dad wasn't working, how much will they expect now that he's starting to work again?

duke, on the other hand, gave me an EXCELLENT financial aid package. they gave me 14k through scholarship money from the university. i only have to pay $4000.. well, i have 2k in loans so technically $6000 for my parents. and im supposed to contribute $1000 of that through work study. im sure the money will go up for it next year too but still =) it's great!

and i haven't received my package from cornell yet.
but due to aid, im like 80% BLUE DEVIL...

DANG. we all sound so frackin poor.
