With chauncy billups, he plays with four other great players, three of whom are fellow all stars. Dirk plays with a pretty talented team from terry to howard (albeit, he hasn't played in a while), to stackhouse, to daniels. Even Brand has great talent around him, cassel, mobley, corey...
but from nash's standpoint, he's got marion, yes. But the suns have been without their best player, amare.
Yes, in the past, i've nailed steve nash for being an overrated white point guard. I've said that with joe johnson, sean marion, and amare stoudamire, he's had the easiest pg duties he's ever had. But with two thirds of that equation gone, nash still has his team in the playoffs, and has phoenix sitting in third place right now. With who? Raja Bell, Boris Diaw, Jones, and Tim Thomas.
Don't get me wrong, these are talented players, but i'm sure i'm not going out on a limb here when i say that these players would not be performing at this level without steve nash. You can make the same argument for Kobe. However, there are two things that i consider to be hindrences to his MVP candidacy.
1. He basically (arguably) is the reason for the lakers debacle that tore the team apart.
2. The Lakers sit in the 7th spot, only 2 games over the kings, four games over the hornets. And let's face it, they don't stand a chance in the playoffs. The suns, even though it might not be a great chance without amare, at least still stand a chance to get to the western finals.
Here's another reason; aside from Billups, there are no other pg's in the talk. And we should all know by now that the pg position is probably the most difficult (mentally) to grasp.
well, that's my 2 cents.

im not quite sure why tony parker, pierce, wade, or nowitzki's even in the mvp talks. theyve all had great seasons and played extrememly well, but not quite at the mvp level i think
billups too. hes a great player and all, but look at the guys he has surrounding him. if you subtracted billups from that team, the pistons would still go for 50+ wins, no problem. plus offensively, he doesnt get the defensive attention that kobe has to face every night because he has such a talented cast supporting him.
wihtout kobe and nash the lakers and the suns would have been like 10-72 so i think the race comes down to those two. ive been hearing nash's numbers are actually better than last years even with qrich, amare, and joe johnson all gone. but kobe's astonishing performance on both ends of the floor, especially the offensive end where the best defender on the other team always dogs him, should put him right up there with nash. not to mention, his two hisotric performances of 81 and 62 in 3quarters push him over and above nash. i mean, how many times will you see anyone get close to 62, much less 81?

Every player who has won MVP not only made offensive contributions, but were able to help their teams become top in the league, which Kobe has failed to do.
Billups has helped lead the Pistons to a remarkable season although they're stacked with talent, and Nash has done well with a team with roster troubles.

just because he makes the players about better unlike Kobe >.<
Barbosa and Diaw were no names and are now pretty good pros ...
also ... Marion is having a career year thanks to Nash ...
so Nash gets my vote =]

Billups or Nash. Not like the Lakers had that much of a great season for Kobe to win MVP. Don't get me wrong, Kobe's a beast, but the Lakers aren't considered an elite team anymore
i think the records kobe broke will overshadow the fact that his team isn't doing as good as the pistons or suns

Kobe is the man. Billups is good but he just isn't popular among teens like me. We are going by favoritism here, and Kobe is the best candidate for MOST VALUABLE PLAYER! The funny thing is I've seen more Kobe jerseys than Billups, Nash, and Nowitzki's combined!
