Not to offend anyone who is Hmong... but can someone tell me what country Hmong people come from? I've always found it interesting that there are Hmong people living in the northern parts of Vietnam... Up until recently I thought Hmong people were Vietnamese but just those who live really high up in the mountains. But it seems you are a race of your own ^^". But yeah... I don't know much. I'm Vietnamese but I grew up in NZ and AUS ... so haven't really had an in-depth geography lesson about Asia... and I don't know anyone who is Hmong.

It'd be great if someone could enlighten hehe. And I'm sorry if I've offended anyone... not intended ^^".

hummm...we don't really have our own country...we're a scatter bunch...you'll find hmong people almost anywhere in diffferent parts of the world

Well...they usually have really meaningful songs...which is a good thing, but they can't rap for crap. The guy(s) can't flow, sorry to say.

Best Hmong rappers, would have to be RARE, and LP is ok too.

As for singers, I still think all the old school singers are better. Like Lue Yang, those Xanakee singers, etc.
The new singers, esp the girls are annoying. That is, Whyteshadows, etc.

wow. who knew there was a Hmong Music Thread. Interesting.
Anyways, Hmong Music has changed so dramatically throughout the years. We've come a long way and i have to say that i'm super proud. There's so much talent out there in the Hmong community that most hmong people/people don't even know about and most of these talents are underground artists. Of course everyone has their own opinion, but before judging and saying that you dislike hmong music or that there's nothing good/original about it... do some research, you'll be suprise.

i like the oldie hmong songs.

i think hmong songs when translated, sorta loses its meaning.
but i still like 'em.

and just commenting on the many previous replies...

- not only the bad voices get record labels.
everyone has their own range of singing and you cant expect everyone to bellow out notes.

- hmong songs arent stupid. and they are not dumb.
every music is different and unique. lay off.

Hmong songs puts me to bed.. i am saying this in a good way.. and um.. the songs and lyrics flow evenly through out the song.. its like you can read the music.. with out the lyric or you read the the lyrics with out the msic.. complacated stuff

I know E.T yang....he was my brother's best friend back when they were in High school...now all he does is go to Thailand and make movies or music videos...

I do like Hmong music, but sometimes, the same lyrics are getting used again and again. Also, there's too many remakes of one song...if it's a good song, it'll be remade at least 4 times by a few people.

^^ yeah there sure is a lot of remake. i didn't know there was a hmong music thread. but i do like the really old songs back in the days by Lue Yaj and the older singers. I don't really listen to hmong american songs except the Christian hmong songs. But i do like some of the recent hmong songs by the singers from Thailand or Laos.

i haven't heard of Proto-J. but RARE i do like one of their songs. i don't know the title but it's something about "HMONG" their live perf was really good too. And one of the guy is my cousin. They went and try out for SM Town when SM came to Chicago but then i didn't get to ask him the other day what they receive back from SM.

EH..Hmong music isn't all that. Jeff and Cicily are extremely good!!! Best I've heard so far. Them bands like paradise and whyteshadow...ICK! I hate them. They suck. I swera. They're tone deaf or something. They think they're all good but they suck. I'm not hating..Im just telling the truth,

oh and i found the perf of RARE performing in Fresno New Year that i thought was good. the bald head one is my cousin. i never listen to them but once i heard this song being play at a Program i went to, i thought it was good.
