Random question: do people find the graduation ceremony to be important? I sort of had a minor argument with my dad over it because I didn't want to participate in the ceremony and have my family show up -- I figure I have a lot more schooling ahead of me anyway. He said that he just had to be there (even though he wasn't there for my high school graduation) because it only happens "once in a lifetime" sleep.gif Anyway how do you guys feel about it? It just feels like a big annoying thing that's not even that important to me.

i'd say just do it out of respect to your dad. if it makes him happy and it won't kill you, why not just do it? it's only one day smile.gif

So I just wrapped my suitemate in bubblewrap and left him in the Argo elevator for thirty minutes. Then, wheeled him out in a shopping cart in front of CLICS. Left him out in front of the door for a bit until on of the staff came out and poked at him. After the guy went back in to call security, we bailed. It was funtimes.

Hey guys, transferring as a junior this spring 09 qtr(warren/math major) biggrin.gif yay! haha I'm pretty excited but still getting used to where everything is. =P I'm actually trying to look for an apartment off campus. Hopefully, its not too late.

I have a few questions.
-Whats the best way to look for an apartment(off campus) w/ ucsd undergrad roomates? Is there a place on campus that can help me?
-Advice on taking out a loan? (Since my plan is to take out loans and pay it off after i graduate.)

Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated. happy.gif

First of all congratulations! I'm an ERC student as well smile.gif

The college you're accepted into out of the six doesn't really matter when it comes to your majors, but yes it does come into play in regards to your GE's and and living situation. Each college has their own little part of campus and dorms, but no worries ERC dorms are really nice. I'd advise you to send in your housing early though even if you're not 100% sure you're going to choose UCSD because first of all, the housing form thing you submit first is free (you don't have to pay until you submit your SIR and go through that whole process, etc) and second of all ERC housing doesn't accomodate all its student. A lot of first years get overflow housing into Revelle and although I don't think the fleets are all that bad, the ERC dorms are much nicer imo.

so even if we might end up not going at all, it's ok to turn in the housing application to reserve space?

Yes, it's okay to turn in the housing right now. You don't have to pay anything. Last year I was a bit apprehensive too, so I made my friend try it out first lol. It turned out to be a good thing that we did it right away since we ended up getting a double in ERC smile.gif I'd highly advise you guys to do it asap even if you're not sure you're going to submit the SIR for UCSD yet just to be safe. The earlier you submit this the better chances you have of getting the room type you want.

This year's dorms are better than last year. They fixed it up last summer. I think you'll at least have white walls now, instead of puke green walls. The dorms gets crowd since most of the rooms at triples (which were originally doubles). The closest dining place is FoodWorx, but still that's like a 10 minute wall from the dorms. Food there is not so great; there's no variety. There's basically salads, wraps, pizza, and sandwiches. I hope this information somewhat helps you. :]

If I remember correctly there's a question when you fill out this questionnaire for housing. If you want to dorm with a friend you need to put down your friend's PID# and your friend must put down your PID#.

The food at Foodworx is great! Why? Because i work there. You should get food from me. =]

By not so great, are you talking just about the variety or the quality of food?
Oh and how are other dining halls all that different, variety-wise? We have stir fry on saturdays, bbq grill on the weekends, steaks on wednesdays, different hot foods every day... PLUS it's open late. That's a luxury not many other colleges have. Most are stuck going to OVT or Earl's after 8.. Oh and where else can you get bosco sticks and churros? Considering how small Foodworx is, i think it holds its weight..
