ugh its part of asian CULTURE. people always say exactly what you say, but honestly, its just different.
im pretty sure most people here understand me
and my parents dont even control my life, heck, my mom dont know anything about my education since high school, she just signs forms and pays money. my parents only know what i tell them, which is not alot. im just saying they wanted me to apply for cal, period. i guess even if i dont go, they can at least say "hey she got in" but i didnt so
and its not like my parents can apply anyway....

yeap ERC baby
- well its the fifth college, everyone here knows erc for its awful mmw (making of the modern world) courses, which are required 2 year = 6 quarter history writing courses thats part of the GE. and obviously, that is THE worst part of being an ERC student. i mean, mmw classes can be a pain in the ass, especially for science majors, but you honestly do gain a lot of interesting knowledge about the different religions, cultures, history, and etc in the world. you get to take a lot out of it.
- the other GEs are rather typical, its not that hard to finish them. im still a freshman, and im pretty much all done except for mmw!
- ERC is also known for the best dorms - definitely best looking and biggest common rooms, the triples are kinda small though, and the walls are thin (sucks! people can be really loud sometimes, but some pounding and shouting and the RAs will do the job). so turn in housing NOW and sign up for single or double!
- we also supposedly have the best looking girls....
- cafe v is our dining cafe, also best looking and best atmosphere. the food is not bad at all, but theres only so many options (the grill, chinese food, salads & wrap & sandwiches, pizza, pasta are always available on top the different meals each day). theres fine dining on wed night, and best of all fresh sushi m-f lunch and sometimes for dinner also.
- we have SAC, which has two pool tables (<3), air hockey, and a lot of other games.
- middle earth is like a lounge area in the middle of erc dorm area, it has a piano in it.
- oh, and of course, erc is a bit far comparing to the other colleges, but its NOT THAT BAD. you can always ride the bus! and i can even get to sixth college (on the complete other side of school) in just 10 minutes by walking. on the plus side, we are very close to RIMAC, the best and the new gym, definitely go there and work out!
ugh not everyone is asian here. and clearly you dont really get it consider you are the one who is making a fuss out of nothing.
gl on ur finals for those who have them. lol. it's all over fb status for my friends who go to SD.

ahahaha thank you! man i still have two more finals tomorrow, and obviously im not studying right now!
i really think SD is a great place to be in. i mean i could've went to another UC that i received a lot more scholarships for, but i dont really regret anything. La Jolla is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. the air, the weather, the beach, its all love.
Muir is the second oldest college, so the dorms are obviously not as nice. if you live in the upper floors, lets say floors 5 and up? you do get a beautiful view of the ocean. the rooms honestly look like jail cells, cause the guy who designed the dorm buildings was actually a jail cell architecture...^^" but the size is decent. in muir, each hall has a big common room (which unfortunately, is even smaller than ERC's each suit's common room...we have additional hall common rooms as well), and each suit (each hall in muir has 4 suits - each divided to 2 sides - guys and girls) has a very small lounge area. muir's cafe is the sierra submit, its decent and has the WOK and a Pete's coffee + yummy ice cream place in side. people generally dont complain about muir, it has the best location out of all colleges on campus.
also, if you dont drive, it kind of sucks but we have a great bus system (both public and school) that takes you to pretty much all the place you need - for free. the parking fee is just too expensive....
COME TO ADMIT DAY AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!! i live in EUROPE 100 in ERC, so everyone gets to come in and check it out!
okay back to to study!

no you cant =(
cause they are not really english writing courses. they are basically analytical history classes, and mmw 2 & 3 are worth 6 credits. there are no classes in cc that will cover the credits. mmw courses also do count for major credits for religious studies and few other majors. most mmw professors are just awesome. i honestly rather take mmw (although not 2 years willingly) rather than plain english classes.

is it better to do the UCSD extension program or to take community college courses?
also, if someone could describe what Muir is like with the requirements and the general setting and people and life

I personally think the fleets are better than Argo and Blake, it's more intimate.
And again, Plaza cafe is a gastronomic travesty, except every night they have this pretty bomb rotisserie chicken. NOTE: You can never go wrong with Plaza's chicken. NEVER. Their other food ranges from soompi-fanfic-section bad to barely edible. Except for the breakfast. That's always good, if you ever wake up in time for it. I, for one, have not woken up for breakfast since the middle of last quarter.
POTS (excuse me, ROGER'S PLACE) is godsend. Period.
Revelle isn't really that bad, don't trip.
Still beats Sixth.

hmmm. history writing? Does that mean we'll have a lot of essays to do? *dies* at least since we're all in the same dorms, we could help each other out so it wont be as bad (:

As I can remember, I think the most # of pages I had to write for CAT 4 (the final graduation project) was to have between 15-20 pages. But more because they wanted you to do drafts of it in the beginning and finalize in the end. For other classes, like Ethnic Studies or maybe for other Humanities/Writing majors, it would totally exceed that.
As for "freshmen 15", Haha I actually lost 10 pounds on my Freshmen year because of all that walking / biking to classes or whatnot. Plus, you'll probably miss your home cooked meals before you know it and get tired of the cafeteria food. That's why sometimes I chose to eat at Price Center. But that gets really expensive early since you can't use meal points. Well just wait until you get to 3rd year or earlier by moving off campus to find a close apartment. You need to know how to cook your own food.
Oh, one more thing, I don't know if they still have this program but there is a summer / before school starts program in UCSD called Oasis Summer Bridge Program. I suggest applying for that. It allows you to get used to the campus earlier than everyone else. You get to meet people from incoming different colleges as well so it's a good way to get a heads up. They will give cool advices too and its like a Campus tour that last for a month.
Edit: I know I know it's long already, but one last thing ... WHO HERE IS WATCHING BOYS OVER FLOWERS?!! Could be everyone right since why in the world are you at Soompi if you haven't gotten obsessed over that show.

I'm now a first-year at Muir, though. soooo, here's my basic rundown.
we have the biggest triples. I kid you not. I've always heard that our dorms look like crap because of the way they look like jail cells, but seriously? it's not that bad. each hall is broken down into houses. there are two halls: Tenaya and Tioga. Tenaya has four houses: A, B, C, and D. each year the house themes are different and the one I'm currently in right now (B house) is called the BEAR HOUSE. Tioga, on the other hand, has five houses. each house is made up of two floors, connected by a spiral staircase. you can basically imagine each house to be a capital I. in the middle of the I, there's the elevators and the spiral staircase. of course, if you're on the lower floor (the odd-numbered floor), there's the big lounge with HUGE windows. they're basically the walls of the lounge. at each of the ends of the I (there are four, two on the top, two on the bottom) there are suites and mini-lounges. There are two suites on each side of the floor which are separated by the mini-lounge. does this make sense? hahaha
I always heard random rumors about UCSD being dead and Triton eye.
1) UCSD is NOT dead. it's really all about your point of view, actually. I live with 4 frat boys on my wing and they always tell us when there are parties and clubbing events and all of that jazz. and for those who aren't into that type of thing, it's cool. some people longboard around campus for fun, go to the beach, drag the couches into the doubles/triples and have movie nights, go hiking, etc. I really got lucky with the people I live with. we play games alot, watch movies, work out together, cook food together, and etc. it's all really chill and good fun. (: plus, our RSOs are so chill. they've caught us drinking multiple times but I think we've only had 2 write-ups the whole year. I'm not that sure, but I know they're suuuuper lenient with us. they play this "if I don't see, hear, or smell you, you're good to go. go to your room. stay there. do your business."
2) there are tons of pretty girls. TONS. there are a handful of good-looking guys. I guess girls might have to watch out for Triton eye, but this is Soompi. if you're into Korean guys, you won't have much trouble. there are sooooo may Koreans here!
muir is a really social college. everything is set up as an open environment. we can mingle among the different suites and floors if we'd like and I know that's not the case for the fleets and warren, at the very least. those res halls have locked doors that you can't get into unless you know someone from the inside. I have no idea how marshall, sixth, erc, and revelle's blake and argo halls are, but in the end I've always heard that muir has a great setup. everything's buzzing all the way into the wee morning
the view from the buildings really IS amazing. no matter what college you're from, you should definitely check it out one day. (:
as for dining halls.
SUMMIT: muir's main dining hall. I keep hearing rumors about it being renovated next school year so I don't know if this will be useful or not. anyway, it's decent food. the sandwiches are alright, the fast food (kind of fast) is alright. the salad selection is probably better than most other dining halls. we have a stir-fry section that everyone seems to love and we have a pretty good smoothies/yogurt place.
MERCADO: muir's other dining place. it's convenient because it's typically open from 6PM to 11PM. Summit closes at 8. so, if you have late classes, you won't completely starve. (: this place serves mexican food. I think the only decent burrito is the California burrito. the carne asada fries are decent, and the shrimp tacos are to die for!
FOODWORX: this place is sixth's main dining hall. the salads and pizzas there are unbelievable and are definitely worth the walk sometimes. otherwise, I don't really head over there. it's so farrrrr.
OCEANVIEW TERRACE (OVT): marshall's dining hall. it has a pasta place, a mexican grill sort of thing, a sandwich/wrap place, a salad place, and the standard fast food. the wraps are good if you know the right combinations, and the kitchen is open until 12AM. sooo many students head over there after workouts at RIMAC. (: it's a good place, I guess. there's a little store sort of thing on the side that is open until 1AM so it's pretty convenient. it's much better get food like that at POTS or Earl's, though.
POTS and Earl's. both are very similar. POTS belongs to Revelle and Earl's, Warren. they're both open late and they provide random things you can't find in the dining halls. stuff to clean, cosmetics, dishes, appliances, etc. they have the standard frozen foods, breads, fruits, candies, etc. it's like a liquor store without the liquor! it's convenient mostly because you can use dining dollars there. (:
CAFE VENTANAS: erc's dining hall. it's aesthetically really nice, but I can't say much about it. I don't really find reason to go there often besides the random sushi. but, sushi can be found everywhere, so whatever, I guess?
it's 230AM. I'd like to continue this more, but I'm sleepy. if anyone has questions, just ask!
btw, muir's writing requirement is only 2 quarters long. the first one is about the environment and then the second is ANY subject (from a list) you wish. the first class just teaches you how to analyze arguments, dissect them, and examine how they work (and work effectively or not). the second class is strictly a research class. we have one of the sweetest writing requirements (:, promise!

As another ERC student, I guess I can say the guy problem isn't that bad. It does suck a little for me since our hall only has two suites of guys and I'm on the first floor where there aren't any so there's not so much interaction there. Plus with living on the first floor, the building common room and the staircase is set up right in the middle between the two suites on the first floor so we don't have the luxury of walking like 2-3 steps over to the suite opposite yours. The thing is though you have tons of other opportunities to meet guys from ERC and other colleges so yeah definitely don't worry about that.
For the essays, you start them in MMW 2 which just passed for me and it was 3 essays per quarter. Basically once you hand in an essay you get the next prompt right away. The class itself is enjoyable and has some interesting material, but I'm not going to lie the writing is a pain in the ass. I was also unlucky in the sense that I got a TA who was a hard grader. You can find more information on the course at the ERC website. They also go over MMW in pretty good detail at orientation and if you have questions before that you can also ask at Admit Day if you're going. There's going to be a student panel at each session.
SAC just stands for Student Activities Center and it's right next to the laundry room
