What major? Are you gonna stay in the village?

QUOTE (0oyokisuo0 @ May 5 2009, 04:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
ditto. im freshman international studies poli sci (i just changed to that hahaha)
no worries my friend's roommate, who is a freshman, already turned 20 ._. im still 18......and i know other juniors and seniors who are taking mmw. my RA is a fifth year, he took mmw 1 with us first quarter! it was funny
$1300 a months for two people 1br apartment? if it covers all the utilities and etc, it is worth it. housing on campus is pretty much always cheaper than housing off campus, or at least, has more benefits. unless you have someone in mind you want to live with off campus, it usually sucks to live with strangers....

What major were you before? I'm just wondering if ERC is for artsy majors (mine's music). housing on campus is always more expensive but it does have its benefits. I have another friend who might be coming to ucsd with me as well as people i know who already live there so i have options, i'd have trouble affording 1300 a month since I pretty much support myself so that's what's making my decision hard. Also, I like having my own room, I don't lead the best lifestyle to be sharing a room - come home late, always listening to music, etc. I am clean though lol. I'll figure it out. Do you dorm? if so, how's that?

as a chinese major, think i'll end up changing it to international studies or something lol

i'm not sure whether or not i'll be living in the village.. it's more than likely i will but having a nice single apartment to myself would really be nice.

I was environmental systems, then international studies econ, now is poli sci. actually sixth college is supposedly for the artsy majors. hmmm housing on campus may be more expensive but it covers dining, water, electricity, super fast internet, cable, and etc etc. off campus housing may seem cheaper at first (and note that you WILL have to share room if you really want cheap) but you end up spending a lot more off campus than on campus. and there should be single room apartments (or dorm - cheaper than apartments) in the transfer house.

and yes, first year on campus dorm (single, double, or triple), second year is on campus apartments (erc's apartments are all single roomed). its pretty good, probably because my suite is like one of the most silent and clean suites....im not complaining though smile.gif

It depends - what is your major? You have to complete 4 series and 2 writing courses (easy, but time consuming if you are not good at writing).

If you're a science major, you should do these series. You can only have 3 overlapping series, I believe.

- Math 10 series - practically the easiest science classes you'll take. Math 20 series is more difficult - some find it easy, some don't. Just remember to look up evaluations on profs.
- Mus4 (P/NP) + Mus 13AS (take for letter to get A+) + MUS 15 (take modern art rock to get A+) or take MUS 9 (to get an A)
- Poli 10 + 12 + 13 (Easy A-/A's if you go to class and attempt to read some of the stuff)
- Foreign Language or hild series. I took the hild 7abc series, and got B's in them since I didn't really care. Take it p/np if you want.

For MCWP 50, I recommend the pirates, food, or politics of the rainbow topics.

ooh thank you. :]. i'm a bio major (more specifically, human bio) and is it advisable to transfer my ap chem credit? I think i'm pretty set on doing it for bio b/c i'm comfortable with it but i'm only so-so about chemistry.

does any one know anything about psych? i'm thinking of minoring in it.. maybe. lol. i'm not too into poli sci.

^d00lie: i've heard that people who transfer the chem credits have a harder time..so i personally don't think it's advisable. plus, if you're going pre-med, which i am assuming you are b/c of your human bio major, it's better to take the class in college. unfortunately, i'm taking the chem test on tues [was late in asking for a refund]>.< ..so i just want a 3 and nothing higher so i at least get some credits for my $90

p.s. i'm in muir too! happy.gif

That's funny because my friend got into sixth college as a poly sci major. Anyways, I'd like to chat with you sometime instead of spamming this thread if you don't mind answering some questions of mine and making a new friend. pm me :]

I love psych! I took AP Psych last year, and it was the best class I've ever taken. I'm thinking about minoring in that too.
I hate chem. ): I'm a physio and neuroscience major, but I'm thinking of switching to a different bio major.

ooh yay! biggrin.gif. mmm yeah. after talking to some people i don't think i will. or even if i do, i'll just take the class again. GL on your chem test! lol. i regretted not taking a single exam before taking the test (I got a 4 lol) i don't remember the test being like ridiculously hard though.. actually in comparison to my teacher's final, it was a lot easier.. --''

also, regarding the ap scores, i'm taking ap tests this year so i just asked collegeboard to send all scores to SD. would it be transferred by the time i choose classes or should i bring hard copies of the scores just in case? or should i just ask them to transfer what I took juniro year over the phone first? (b/c that has my bio and chem)

^ on the answer sheet, if you have asked collegeboard to send your score report to UCSD, then they will ONLY send the ones that you have taken this year...

that means if you want them to send any report from years before, you'll have to personally call them up and ask them to send the previous score reports (which cost an additional 15 dollars)

i'm planning on getting my bio, language, and ush credits sent there ASAP (i'm not gonna send them chem)

hmm..don't u have to pay money in order to keep them from sending your scores?
like, i'm taking chem on tuesday but i checked UCSD on the answer sheet..so is it even possible for me to prevent UCSD from seeing my chem score???
i'm gonna send my other tests, but i absolutely do not want to send my chem score. i was even thinking of purposely failing or just getting a 3 on the AP test, until i heard that graduate schools see your AP scores >_< ..argh

---
also, does anyone know when the emails get activated? i got my email, but cant log in >_<

^ my email is already activated
you should go back on and try to change the password
it'll take the server about 20-30 minutes to be able to recognize it (they'll give you a time you can access your account by) and then you can login after that

and if you want to prevent them from getting your AP score, you'll have to manually cancel it
they should give you directions on how to do that AT every test...

if not, you can find the info in the "student pack"

i don't know if you can withhold just ONE score, but you could try? ^^

Does anyone know how to change majors? I applied to UCSD, and I picked undeclared but found out they had good bioengineering so I wanted to major in that? Is it too late?

i'm pretty sure bioengineering is an impacted major from way long ago, so you might have to wait for your junior year and get a really good gpa. the way the bio impacting works here is they go down the list from the highest gpa.

if you want to transfer ap chem credit, 4 clears you through the first of the Chem 6 series, the general chem that everyone takes, and a 5 clears you from the whole series. if you want to go pre-med its often advised that you take all your major-related classes (so chem & bio) at a 4 year

hi :)

everyone has to take chem? T.T
omg, i hated chem so much >.<

students only have to take 2 years of science though right?
because i was looking at a sheet that said how many classes i can waive with my AP scores
and if i pass the physics test this year, then i'm done with science....(i think)...

oh man, if i had to take chem again, i'd...faint xD
