i have a few questions~
- what exactly do you do at orientation (i'm in Muir)? do they send us an agenda in the mail/email before orientation?
- what are some good job opporutnities available on campus? i was reading a few posts back and saw kurisu talking about jobs at the library. so, do you know when the application process begins or any other jobs that are interesting/flexible? i understand that port triton has a list of job opportunities, but i can't use that yet until the fall quarter >.< any advice would be greatly appreciated ^^
- is taking the chem placement test necessary? i took the ap chemistry exam this year

I was walking next to this kid and he got attacked by the bird. I stared the bird down and it didn't attack me.

I'm not sure if the muir orientations are still the same (dunno if budget cuts affected it, lol), but basically what happened when I went in summer '06 was:
- Get a dorm key to put my stuff down since I was going to stay the night
- Meet up in some area and get placed in orientation groups (separated from my boyfriend D: )
- Walk around to tour the campus
- Meet up with a academic advisor (or some sort of counseling advisor) about what classes I should take
- Eat food from the dining hall (Sierra Summit)
- Tour some more of campus
- Get free shirts (color varies each year)
- Eating more food at the dining halls
- Do a giant group dance? lol I kept forgetting all the dance steps
- A "party" in the dorms
- Sleep
- Wake up to guitarist orientation leader
- Eat food
- Some other group stuff. I forget but it's nothing big.
- Leave
That's pretty much it. The good thing is that you can get to know some people from your college in advance, and you can figure out what classes to take with the advisor. In addition, you are given a folder with a bunch of information to help you with your four year plan, as well as a student planner (never used it though).
As for on-campus jobs - you really just have to search for it yourself. I think the easiest jobs to get are the ones at the dining halls. However, they aren't the best jobs, but if you really need a job, they are always hiring. I almost applied there, but [FORTUNATELY] I saw a posting for the library on port triton. It becomes accessible once the school year starts, and for the most part, postings are usually posted during the school year. If you really want a job at the library, I believe there is a board of some sort somewhere near the main circulation desk (SSH in Geisel, right when you walk in) that has postings printed out. I believe it's more difficult now because it's so competitive and there's fewer spots open. It doesn't hurt to try, and you might get lucky. :] You aren't limited to working on campus though. There's plenty of other places to work at (UTC if you're okay with retail) that are off-campus, but not too far away. If you have a car, that's a plus.
I wouldn't recommend getting a job your first quarter though, just so it's easier to make friends and go to all your classes. Juggling a job can be hectic - I regret working my first quarter, lol.

well, chinese studies takes a lot more time and requires more work -- three classes a week plus two sections...
whereas the language independent study is more flexible i think... you can take it for 2 or 4 units... and you only learn how to speak, not read/write.

So you don't learn the most important aspect of the language. Awesome.

There are ATM machines in Price Center from Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Chase. The nearest banks include Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo.

I haven't had her but I heard she's terrible. I had Reinagel for genetics and she sucked at teaching too, but her tests allowed crib notes, which was awesome. But then again, genetics itself is a pretty easy subject, so maybe it doesn't matter too much what professor you get -- I didn't try at all and I got a B+

i'm pretty sure there's a US Bank atm machine in front of PC. But I'm not sure if there's a branch in La Jolla.
