YAY for UCSD<33
I posted this 2 pages before your post.
Well trust me you will LOVEEEE Muir's GEs and dorms. Their dorms are pretty big, compared to Revelle, Marshall, and Sixth. I've only been to Warren apartments, and they're nice, but Muir apartments are WAYYYY nicer. And there's a big loft/common area for every two floors. It's really sweet. But I heard ERC dorms are really nice. Haven't been in them though. But anyways, BOTH Muir dorms (Tioga and Tenaya) have been renovated, so everything looks so nice (seriously!). I don't dorm, but my friends do, and I've visited many times.
Curriculum - Muir Writing (MCWP) is pretty difficult (hard to get an A-, people usually get B+'s), but if you work your ass off and you are an english-lit major, you'll be fine. You end up writing two papers (8-10 and 10-12 pages), but they do teach you how to write, seriously. I write many of my essays based on their style and it's all good. Just remember to take easy classes (GE reqs.) when you take Muir 40/50 because you will have to put some time and effort into it. You can't BS the essays, and trust mew I've BS many essays before and done fine. YOu have to actually DO STUFF.
You also have to do 4 different sequences -- all do-able, depending on what you want to take. They're really flexible, so since you're going to be a non-science major, you can take more random classes. The classes for my major completed some of my GE requirements. Seriously, if you did 4 classes each quarter, all GE's, that's already finishing the 4 sequences. And if you did Muir Writing (muir 40 and muir 50/125 or something), that's a total of 14 GEs. PLUS, if you completed some AP course and got AP credit for passing the ap test, you can clear up some classes, such as math (math 10 series, anyone?), etc.
Sierra Summit, the dining hall, well at least there's a sitting area. Food Worx doesn't have tables indoors. It's also easy to get to. Food Worx is pretty far, in Sixth college, from sixth college dorms (log cabins, I guess).
Bad - Muir 40. Muir 50 is much easier. Like I said, I tried pretty hard and got a B+. But it's okay, better than a C+! lol. Parking sucks, but it's okay, we got carpool. We ALWAYS park at Muir lower lots because they have a lot of carpool spots. Nothing really bad about Muir. Although it's farther away from Price Center, but not as far as Revelle (ACK York Hall to Warren Lecture Hall, anyone?!).
Let me know if you have any other questions.
I have a 6 page essay due in about 7 hours and I haven't even finished the readings

It seems impossible to achieve at this point... And I'm getting really sleepy ;____;
That is SOOO do-able, but it depends on the class. I cranked out 4-page essays in 2-3 hours because I knew what I was talking about. I also had a research paper (I wrote 7 pages) that I cranked out in 5-ish hours, and fortunately got a 96% on, but before when I wrote 1 page to get checked by the TA, he said my thesis was all wrong. I don't even know how I did it but I was pretty focused and it was during summer session, but it worked out, since I started it the day it was due, lol. As long as you're wide awake and understand enough, just skim the readings and look for quotes that support your thesis. But if it's something you don't know anything about, then sorry that will be difficult.
^There are no single rooms in residence halls - only doubles and triples. If you ask for an apartment, you might be able to get a single.
Are you talking about residence halls in general, or just the Sixth College ones? If you're talking about residence halls in general, there are most definitely singles, but you have to pay a little more. This sucks because the room is smaller. They cram everyone in triples in dorms, but if you choose to live at an apartment, you pay the same amount as if you lived in the dorms, but you are guaranteed a double if you want a double, and a single if you want a single.
