waitlist will depend on the number of people in that class. if there's 15 students, i personally wouldnt even waitlist 2nd. if there are 150, number 10 on the waitlist should be okay.

I had a question on waitlisting -- I heard somewhere that by a certain date the admin/dept/some higher force in the academic world reassigns you to another section/LE/class? that's open (if you're still on the waitlist). I was wondering if that was true and if it is, then by what date?
As for me, I'm trying to get into Tesler's Math 20B... no.3.
... Oh yeah, my friend was wondering "if i waitlist 2 in a class of 30 is there a good chance i'll get in or should i change to another class that screws up my schedule?" because she saw the post of if you're in a single digit place on a waitlist, it's good especially if the LE is 150+.
Thanks for everything again!

This is the only one I can answer for you (or well, your friend, lol).
Most likely she will get in, but you have to take into consideration what kind of class it is. Is it a class where she is signing up for a discussion (has 30 spots) and is waitlisted, but there are other discussion sections to follow a lecture? if not, and this is a class that has ONLY 30 spots, I will still say that she will most likely get in. From now until school starts, there is always the potential for 2 enrolled students to drop from the class and she may get in, BEFORE school starts! So she should remain on the waitlist. Also, the first two weeks of school (not counting week 0 -- the week with Sept. 25 on it is week 0) allows her more time to get in the class because at least 2 students may decide that they do not want to take the class, and will drop. Also, sometimes a professor may open a few more spots to get a few more people in. This often does not happen since most people on the waitlist either get in at least a good number get in the class. She should be safe.
HOWEVER, if it so happens that she does not get in the class by the Friday of week 2 of classes (most likely she will), she should make arrangements to add another class in, IF she does want to take 1 extra class. She should look up what her options are, and when school starts, tell her to add another class in (not waitlisted, but actually ENROLLED IN) since a student can enroll in a total of 22 units starting the first day of instruction. She can always drop this extra class if she ends up getting in the other class she waitlisted for. Remember that the waitlist is dependent upon other students dropping the class.
Your friend should still attend the class, even though she is waitlisted. This is under the assumption that she does not get in the class by the time classes actually start. She should attend it in case she actually does get in the class, so that she does not fall behind. Usually classes with 30 people (small classes) take attendance, so if she's there and mentions her name to the professors, sometimes they will add her on and maybe even open a few more spots (I don't know if this will actually happen, BUT it COULD happen

yeah there is no wifi for Argo... but if your room faces York Hall and is really close to clics you can somewhat get a signal. My roommate and I got signal if we sat really close to the window (I lived on the 6th floor of argo)...and during finals week you should be able to get signal on ur bed? But if someone brings a router and get it register from suite or you find someone with wifi in argo and ask for the pw... but you're stuck with the ethernet cable in Argo

here's a *cough* virtual tour (albeit a very lame one) through revelle argo hall...
my double room in argo hall (5th floor, facing york hall) from last year:

my roommate and i moved the beds and desks so that there's more room in the center. mini fridge was placed between our desks so we're both equidistant from our cold beverages =D closets are not pictured & right behind the camera. the closets are rather roomy, unless you have a crapload of stuff.
fun advice--
*move your suite couch onto the balcony and chill there with your laptop/psp/your call. people will think you're crazy, but i know a couple weeks after i did that, the suite across the hallway started doing it too and we just started chatting from our couches. lmao
*right after you move in, be sure to say hi and introduce yourself to all of your suitemates. that's the LEAST you can do, since it's awkward LIVING with people you haven't properly said hi to. use your free time during welcome week to say hi to everyone on your floor/people you ride the elevator with/etc. go to events!!! that's how you meet people!!!
*college is not really as crazy as the media portrays it, but yes, there are college parties. it's up to you whether you want to go or not, but i think every college student needs to go to a party at least once in their first year... try new things out, you know? you don't HAVE you drink or anything--in fact, people would respect you more if you turned down their offer and show them that you can have fun sober. don't do things you're not comfortable with, even when you're pressured to.
*take your laptop out to the lawn near CLICS, mooch off of their wifi, and study right out there on the grass!
*if your windows face york hall, then you're SET. i can usually get to my classes in york within 2 minutes because i just need to look out my window to see if the previous lecture is over
stay chill, and go off to college with an open mind. you shouldn't think that everything will WOW you, because some people come in with crazy expectations, but there are many new experiences and i can guarantee that you will enjoy college for the most part

I haven't taken it, but a pointer would be to know your kanji and be able to write quite a bit using them, or at least be able to read them. You know how each kanji have two pronunciations (chinese and japanese). I took JAPN 10A and dropped JAPN 10B because it was much more difficult. A friend of mine did the same.
xdecadent - Don't work at dining halls unless you really need to (meal points are a plus though ;] ). Needing to meaning that you can't get a job at other places. You should consider working at the Box Office (ticketmaster, located in Price Center), Bookstore, or the Library. I currently work at Geisel Library and it's a really chill job and the pay is good for what little work you actually do. However I believe dining halls give students a raise after each quarter or something like that? I dunno. I just know that my friend worked at Plaza Cafe and he quit shortly after - he was there for less than 3 weeks I believe - and he was glad that he did since it was pretty tiring for him. I wouldn't know personally since I've never worked there.

Um.. I also have a few more questions:
- How many classes do I need to take a quarter to meet requirements?
- Can someone post a picture of a single room in Marshall?
- How do the shower rooms look like in Marshall?
- Are there any living essentials people often forget to bring?
Sorry, it's a lot of questions XD

Oooh lol. Eep~ did your friend take many hard classes or work many hours a day? >< I've been wondering about the Plaza Cafe job because they actually sent me mail asking me if i wanted to work >< i wish i asked about it here earlier because i actually applied and sent in the application because the raises sounded so appealing! LOL (yeah, the worse reason, ever, to pick a job) >< Hmm, if it really is tiring, i think i'll try to switch to one of your suggested places to work (= Thank you so much for the suggestions!
