Though she didn’t bag the Starstruck Ultimate Female Survivor title, 16-year-old Japanese-Filipina Iwa Moto remains at the top. Thanks to her unforgettable breakdown scene that was aired on national television and her girlish charms that captured every Pinoy heart.
Born Aileen Iwamoto to a Japanese father and Filipina mother, Iwa became an instant favorite when she was chosen as one of the Starstruck 14 finalists. The “Chinita Charmer” from Las Pińas City was not just a head-turner because of her Asian beauty, but also an attention-grabber because of her brutally frank attitude.
Iwa says that many know her as someone who speaks her mind. It’s not her character if she would stay quiet and sulk in one corner.
“I know that many will not agree with me but I’m somebody who will say what I like to say. I don’t care if others get hurt with what I say, but I’m just being candid. I will be that person as long as I live.”
It’s not that Iwa is out looking for trouble but her being a straightforward person is her way to send out a message that she’s not the type of person who will be treated in a bad manner.
“Let’s just say that it’s my defense mechanism since I’m not all sugar and spice,” she says with a smile. “If I sense that someone out there would try to make me feel miserable, I’d spring ahead.” I’m not the type who will tolerate it. I don’t want to be in a situation where in I don’t have a fighting chance. I will always fight for what is right.
“That’s why they put a joke on me that I don’t deserve to be the Ultimate Survivor because I very much deserve the title Ultimate Warrior. That’s okay because that’s me. You can either love me or hate me.”
Yet behind that strong personality, Iwa also has a soft spot and she can cry buckets of tears when someone hits the right spot in her. During the final elimination for the Final Four, Iwa already reduced herself to tears since she felt that she will no longer have that chance to finish the contest.
“That was the week when my interview came out and I was saying things that surprised everyone. So I knew then that I would get zero votes from the council. Their votes comprise 50 percent and I didn’t expect to be called back on stage.”
But Iwa, a survivor that she is, has lady luck by her side and she did go on to compete until the end even though Jackie Rice beat her to the Ultimate Survivor title.
“I’m not at all sad because I didn’t win. I’m happy because I was able to prove to many that I can still compete until the end of the contest.
“I said that if I was going to be eliminated, it should be because I didn’t do well in the tests or I failed to deliver something the director wanted me to do. Not because I had been true to myself.
“Now that the contest is finished, let’s leave whatever happened behind and start fresh. My new life starts now and though there will be some changes, how they’d become to know Iwa, will stay. A fighter for the right reasons.”
For being this year’s First Princess, aside from an exclusive contract with GMA-7, she is also a part of Love To Love: Season 10 in the episode “Young at Heart” which she plays the grand daughter of Luz Valdez who becomes Jackie Rice because of a magic record. She’s also a regular in S.O.P. Gigsters, while being busy with numerous TV appearances.
Despite the sweet smile that Iwa flashes for everyone, Iwa longs to have a complete family. Her father, Hiro Aki Iwamoto, has been in and out of their lives. Iwa only wishes to see her father so that she can also share with him her newfound career.
“He’s like a mushroom, he appears in any place!” she laughs. “I got used to it since I was a little girl. Imagine, the first time I saw my dad I was like six years old then when I saw him again, I was already 13.
“The time I saw my dad was March 2005. It’s been a year now, and still, he’s not around. But I’m hoping that one day he would come around. See!
“Even though my mom already has another family, she always tell me to always respect my dad. That’s how life is and I have to accept whatever fate has for me.”
And another thing noticeable with Iwa is her strong sex appeal. She has the curves all in the right places. Will she consider going sexy in the future?
“I can say yes and I can say no. It depends on what is being offered to me. Just as long it’s not vulgar and the people behind me are okay with it, then I will do it. I’m very open to different things and to do something beyond everyone’s dreams is something that I might do if given the proper time for it.
“I will not play coy but I will still respect myself. Babae pa rin ako and 50 percent Pinay. I can be conservative and wild all at the same time.”
