My 250gb is currently at around 52 degrees. Is this bad? Whats an acceptable temperature?

In celcius?!
Thats 126 degrees F...
My hard drive is 81F so 27C
As it goes up in temperature, the lifespan of the drive goes down. I would aim for 100F. Consider looking into a fan or a hard drive cooler for your hard drive. I have a 80mm fan blowing at mine at about 7 volts so its very quiet and keeps the drives cool.
Zalman also has a nice cooler but it might be more expensive than you would want to spend.

My computer stays on for 20 hours a day. I the amount of disk access should be fairly trivial in the context of idle tempteratures. If you are happy with 120F drives, then stick with it. Im just saying it will decrease the life of your hard drive if you continue to use it like that.
Just touch the drive and ask yourself if you think it is operating at good temperatures.
