Thx Telly for posting this useful info... I didn't realize there were so many.. i only knew about the common ones like filefront, sendspace, yousendit, and of coz megaupload. yeah I got myself a lifetime acct @ megaupload since always dlding from there.

hhhmm for filefront the speed is very unstable... I will be dlding w/ like 70kbs then after awhile it goes to like 0.73kbs... so everytime i dld from there i have to sit in front of the pc... stopping and resuming it to get it over 50kbs... wink.gif i like using the other 3 services since the speed is constant and fast... laugh.gif

I don't know where to post this but it is somewhat related to the hosting services... unsure.gif

[UPDATED, MAY 6th 2006] - I hope ALL the pictures will help you understand what i am trying to explain here... :-)
Some Tips downloading from Megaupload ("MU"):

1) Always use a file download manager program like flashget, getright, etc. (since anything unexpected could happen causing us to lose the download)… Since I uses Flashget, I will use it as my example….
2) Since MU only allow one download connection @ a time from an IP address, you should set the maximum download jobs to 1 … (maximum download jobs mean how many files you could download @ the same time).

>>To get to the window below, you must select “Tools”, then “Options”, then the “Connection” tab.
IPB Image

3)Also, don’t split the file to download. Splitting the file to download creates more than one connection. Most download managers let us open more than one connection per download…we need to change it to “1”

>> it is the Properties window of the download itself….
IPB Image

4) Start your first file download using your download manager, after awhile you could pause this download (but before pausing it, just make sure you already started downloading...well if you don't start the download, the link will eventually expire but if you started the download the link somehow stay alive)…
IPB Image

5) Repeat step 4 for your next file download...basically repeat this step until you have no more files to download (last download) as per the pictures below…
IPB Image

IPB Image

6) Lastly restart all the downloads…we could do this by selecting and highlighting all the paused downloads…in the picture below, the shaded gray area is my selected files...this way I could just hit the start button to restart all the downloads…
IPB Image

It will download the files one @ a time (because the setup done in step 2) and the queued downloads won’t expire since it was started already (setup done in step 4 & 5)…
IPB Image

>>>> I do this all the time especially @ night… so when I wake up I have all the files completed (oh, i also did this before i got myself an account from MU so I know it works for non-members)… I posted this up because I noticed the 3:1 ratio of the 2 splitted file I uploaded onto megaupload, so i am thinking it is creating a hassle for people to download...so to make it more convenient and less time consuming i wanted to share my tips/tricks/insights with others... biggrin.gif hopefully this is helpful and not confusing you! rolleyes.gif .... its just uploading is such a drag wacko.gif i rather just upload it once and have it available for a long time rolleyes.gif and the size limitation on megaupload forces the split of the file and I don't want it to cause anyone any inconveniences ... laugh.gif
>>Sorry if this is not related to the topic...but i couldn't find something more related... unsure.gif

I have never tried that bebiwinwin.
I shall try that one of these days. Just copy the link when it says ready to dl?
I assume it works well when the dl is stuck at 30k/s >_<

Ill try that in a little while.

It would be nice to have average dl speeds attainable from these servers also.

thanks everyone for providing helpful tips and insights =)

yep, those download managers are very helpful, especially if the connection is unstable.

we all don't want our videos downloading halfway through, only to receive an error message in the end =p

also, about the average download speeds for each server, most of the sites don't include it in their FAQ or terms of service. i'm thinking we'd have to do a little more research on this? hee =D

I understand that neat megaupload trick now. Took me a while to understand >_<

Current status of Megaupload
150k/s (my max) for one file
2k->60k->2k->6k... I wish the graph was of a convergent series over this weird fluxuation.

Rapidshare
150k/s but the go to router settings, click disconnect, click reconnect, clear cookies, download gets tiresome.

hhmmm, copying the link?? I am a little confuse on what you asking....
>>well when you click on the "MegaUpload download link" (I usually right-click and a menu will come up so i will select "Open in New Window") or i guess you could also copy and paste it...
>>then the web page will load with a right-button saying "Please wait 45 seconds"...
>>eventually, an ad will pop up in front of the link/button... this will hide the link/button....
>>you could just close it by pressing the X on the ad window...this will unhide the link/button...
>>afterward, I just right-click the link/button so a menu will pop-down...from that, i will choose "Download using "the name of your download manager program"...
>>then your download manager should pop open your new download window...for me i just make sure everything is setup right then i will just click OK so it will start downloading...
>>this is when my tricks/tips come into effect...

I hope this answers your question....and made my posts more understandable laugh.gif

laugh.gif i totally don't remember the fluctuation of the speed from megaupload but i have to say it is better than filefront haha...i say this because i remembered at least megaupload's speed will increase back up when it reach like 1kbs...filefront doesn't it just stays there haha sweatingbullets.gif .....Also, like i say i set this up before i sleep or before i go out...instead of constantly waiting by the computer i could do other things... (so i don't get to see the fluctuation) laugh.gif cool.gif

hhmmm...I uploaded to megaupload because I was thinking long-term availability...I been reading the old drama forums...there is always people asking for reups since the links before expired... smile.gif

i should read the FAQ and fine print more often now, huh =p

adding FILEWIRE to the list;
250MB limit for single or multiple files, and also offers hotlinking of thumbnailed images, which is pretty cool.

Thanks for da link, Telly. Didn't know there're so many alternatives hosts around.

BTW,Does anyone else have a near-impossible time getting anything to download from Sendspace.Com? When I "Right Click, Save As..." all I get is an HTML page, and when I click normally I get a far too quick download (for the size of the file). The resulting file usually ends up being less than 10KB, and does not remotely resemble the download I was trying to acquire

I didn't realize YSI reduced it :x That sucks. Here's another, though I'm not sure about the restrictions.

Don’t stop writing—or reading. It will keep you free. It will keep your mind and heart open, and it will be a refuge when the world is too big, or too small, too cruel and without understanding. Even if you think your idea is stupid, or that people won’t care—just keep writing. Write for yourself—write what you want, not what you think other people want to read. -SJM
