Ya... once bootcamp is integrated into OSX ... leopard? macbooks will pretty much dominate.
can you please explain why for this computer layperson? T___T it's just that i'm getting a new laptop for college around late summer and i've used pc's my whole life so adjusting to new changes sound scary. i've used imacs from school and they just seemed so laggy to me... so i was leaning towards the 11" vaio laptops because they're small and cute but i want to consider powerbooks... so if you could explain why macs with windows are better than pcs i'd really appreciate it.

macbooks will never dominate unless they drop the price, so regular consumers can buy them.
I second with Xarthan's opinions. Macs are incredibly expensive.. and while their build quality is great.. performance wise, you could get more for your money elsewhere. (although I personally don't like how the powerbooks vent heat out through the keyboard, rather than having side or rear vents like most laptops).
Personally, if you wanted something "Mac" quality, I'd just go for Asus.. they are afterall, the ones who build the Powerbooks, and have recently been more aggressive in selling under their own name nowadays.

I thought that since Mac uses Intel cpu, isn't it possible to install OSX onto a pc?
yea it's illegal but many people actually did. especially in asia.
and i'm using an apple powerbook G4 and another sony laptop at the same time. i use the apple one mostly for my art stuff. apple has cool design and the operating system is really convenient. some people say the OSX's much stable than Microsoft. I dunno. I'm not an apple snob and dunno too much tech things. but i don't feel the mac OSX has a great advantage over WinXP today. Sometimes the MAC OSX is really slow. and last time when i went to a study abroad program in hongkong, i have problem with internet connection with my powerbook cuz their network system didn't support it. but in the states, i guess it'll just be fine.

For a lot of mac-addicts, there are an abundance of reasons to why the Mac OSX is a superior operating system. However, since most consumers aren't going to go in-depth into an operating system with either Mac OSX or Windows.
Mac OSX has been widely considered as a more friendly operating system. The topic is also widely debatable, but that's the main reason why I made "the switch", and I still believe that it is a friendlier OS. There are a lot of negative feedback towards OSX, such as a clunky system, a weird system, or the one-click mouse. All I have to say is that if everyone opted to give Mac OSX a serious chance as a personal computer, then they'd recognize that OSX isn't all that bad.
Do I think Mac OSX is better than Windows? I think if your goal is to buy a computer for personal usage, you wouldn't have any problems with either. Windows may be targeted for viruses every 3 seconds (or so it seems), but as long as you're not completely illiterate to computers, the chances of getting hit by a virus may be slim.
As for the one-click mouse.. people just don't realize that they can buy a mouse that has a second click to obtain the right-click option. Also, on Mac OSX, to right click, just hold down ctrl and then click. I don't know what the big deal is.
macbooks will never dominate unless they drop the price, so regular consumers can buy them.
While I agree in some extent, I will say that Apple computers are at the price range that they want to be.
I agree that Mac OSX, the operating system, will never dominate for a wide variety of reasons, I disagree with the fact that their prices much drop in order for regular consumers to buy them. I guess you don't realize that the iBooks are around the mid-$1000 range, which is part of the reason why my sister chose to buy one. Also, I guess you don't realize that the Mac Minis are in the sub-$1000 range. Yes, the Macbook, iMac, and PowerMac are not cheap, but Apple has dipped into the affordable price range.. and believe me, back in the day, Apple was never really considered as a cheap computer either.
Apple does not have the same market shares as Dell or HP may have, but financially, they are in as great of a position as Dell or HP. Just think.. if they were to release one or two $1000 range computers, Apple's market share could skyrocket. Though, I'm pretty sure their market share is already skyrocketing with Boot Camp.
I second with Xarthan's opinions. Macs are incredibly expensive.. and while their build quality is great.. performance wise, you could get more for your money elsewhere. (although I personally don't like how the powerbooks vent heat out through the keyboard, rather than having side or rear vents like most laptops).

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/design.html
"MacBook Pro represents a new level of Apple notebook design, a perfect home for the all-new Intel architecture. Battery: new lithium-polymer technology, stacked with the hard drive. Vents: gone from the sides, moved to the rear. Wireless antennas: gone from the display, moved to the hinge. One tenth of an inch in thickness: just plain gone."
Apple has a market in both the high-end and the low-end market. The iBooks and Mac Minis aren't silly computers. They are powerful for their usage, and they are both not as expensive as the other Apple computers.
And you're right.. the vents on the side of the Powerbook is annoying.. but I've managed to survive. *shrugs*
what i'm concerned about is how compatible it is w/ microsoft data, etc...
like..sharing things w/ friends, school work...etc etc...cuz all the comps at my school are PC's too..etc.
Well it depends on what kind of files you're sharing. If you're sharing pictures, movies, and music (the ladder two being illegal
It may ease your mind to know that Microsoft Office is not only compatible with Mac OSX, but Microsoft Office IS on Mac OSX (meaning that you have word, excel, powerpoint, etc). If you're exchanging Microsoft Office files, then that too will be compatible.
The only files that a run-of-the-mill user would have trouble with are program installers, such as .exe files.
And speaking of compatibility.. recently, Apple has recently released a program that will allow Windows XP (SP2) to run on any Intel Mac computers. If anyone has any huge concerns about compatibility, then that may ease your concerns. It is still in the beta phase, but from what I've heard from friends and classmates alike, Windows XP on Intel Macs work wonderfully.
