I know this sounds like a ridiculous question but my aunt's laptop had internet access on it but she didn't pay for it....I think she told me that she "stole" or "borrowed" it from someone. She had to connect to a wireless network by connecting to someone's network around her. Anyone know how I can acquire this?
Make sure you are in range of the "victim's" router signal. Go to network connections and enable your wireless connection. You should pick up the signal.
I guess its stealing but a lot of people do it. Whatever.
well i dont know exactly how but if u have wireless card that is same brand of their router and the distance from u to their router also if their router has firewall or what-so-ever then u cant, correct me if im wrong...

Brand doesn't matter at all. Firewalls are for a foreign computer connecting to a server through the router. You must mean encryption. This means that you must know the key/password or encrption code in order to be able to connect to the router to use as an Internet gateway.

However, legally this is considered Digital Trespassing.
Why don't you get a nice wireless router and connect to your own? Let me tell you its not fun connect to foriegn connections. FOr one thing the signal is weaker so the connection is slow and unstable. The other thing is they can see EVERYTHING you send over the connection. Post on soompi? They can read it. Chat on AIM? Don't be suprised if you get an a IM for your neighbor giving you advice about the discussion you were having.

Theoretically this isn't hacking unless you have to hack thorugh the network security.

But its free?
Most people don't have the skills to decrypt the packets and read the data sent anyways. Whatever.

Free only to the casual user.
When I was DEDICATED to wardriving and wireless hacking I easily spent $200 on equipment to get better signals and better cards to get more speed (was stuck on dialup). After a while I was able to get signals from all around me. Whenever I needed to download a large file I would randomly choose a neighbor and dl.
Now that I have my own wireless network I monitor mine like a hawk. I know what goes in, out and why. I haven't needed to do this, but if anyone does actually hack my network, I WILL give them access for a few days. Then I will simply modify the DNS server to my computer and do some fun modifying so going to google... well lets just say use your imagination of a website on the internet one would not want to see.
(btw can you read that convert avi to dvd thread I was curious on your input about winavi)

No I think otherwise. If we educate people about the dangers and whats bad out there then they will know whats possible. Setup ChopChop properly and your WEP encryption is cracked in less than a hour. (Was it chop chop?)
Either way, knowlege is power and I think it would really help people out there to know the risks. Like phishing. If we dindn't tell people that people have ebay scams and all that, people wouldn't even know what hith them. At least when we tell the public... yes the malicious will learn about it but the naive will also.

Holy thanks for telling me! I never knew that. I used to go online with someone else's wireless connection. I guess thats the consequence.

I have wireless router at home.. and I remember awhile back.. we use to always get this random person using our wireless .. and it just annoyed us so bad! Everytime my brother logged in to our router control panel, he would kick the person off. But thankfully, we found a way to secure the wireless

haha that's hilarious... tricking them into thinking that you don't know they are using your wireless and changing the DNS... LOL

One can easily make google open to a spyware site... make it so when you type in soompi.com it will open some horrible fetish site... You can get really creative with that stuff.

A good +24dB antenna should boost signal strength a bit. An aluminium foil reflector would also help (put foil in parabolic shape, antenna in focus of parabola)
(Recall I said that used to be one of my hobbies/obsessions like photoshop)
