ever seen a memory card that was too good of a deal? most likely it is a fake.
99% of memory sticks sold on ebay is a fake, they even sell fakes at shops(buy from a trusted shop). They would never sell a geniuine 2gb sony mem pro duo stick for less that 300au.
i got my at ebay for 100au, retail price is 500au. Its very hard to tell the differences. I threatened the ebay seller and he then gave me a life time warranty from his supplies(he had 100% positive feedback,800+ so it was easy to damage his business and he lived locally next to me) and then admited to his crime for selling unauthorized fake memory sticks.

Note: Fake ones are claimed to be unstable, they may seem real but its actually a fake.

FOR SONY pro duo memory stick
things to look out for REAL memory sticks.
*casing has rectangular seals which have been heated in not holes.
* wacko.gif exact replica, its very hard to tell. The fake ones are abit fatter and has to be squeezed in the adpator. They DON'T come with warranty from the sony manufacturer(when brought to sony they would find out that it has no serial implimented in it), sellers would even lie to you.

LEXAR and SANDISK also have fakes

be careful shopping, so far my fake memory stick is quite good.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just bought my 1gb Sandisk from Amazon.com --> $40 post rebates,

also, Dell.com also has it for about $36, not sure about rebates, free shipping.

Sorry you were conned on Ebay, but glad you got it worked out!

Thanks for the info - I didn't know they even make fake memory sticks now! O__O I was wondering why all the ones from ebay are going for so cheap - wouldn't want to buy a fake, and risk losing all the data stored on there

Just because retail price is BS doesn't mean cheap memorysticks are fakes. You can get a 1gb memorstick for under $50, easily.

You would if you took 200 photos of your brother's graduation and then found out that the card got corrupted and all the files were erased... The fake memory cards just don't last and they break extremely easily.

I was looking at the year and going O_o but this is a good subject.

Fake ones are also usually much slower. I will say the majority on dealExtreme and ebay are fake http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15682 (notice the reviews all say they are very slow) I can't find any atm but usually at least dealExtreme blurs out the brands when they aren't sure of the authenticity.

No probably won't be. Its an old topic and the prices are off now, but if it comes from a normal store it will be real. Right now you can get 8gb for like $20 (4gb memory stick for 20 because sony is evil) so the smaller capacity cards are dropping to trivial prices.

honestly, memory cards are so cheap right now.
don't buy them from ebay or anything like that. It's not worth the risk of getting a fake.
not to advertise for them or anything but seriously, check out Bh photo. It's where I buy all of my stuff. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/
great prices.
