I'm a girl who likes her pop! Easy to sing along and catchy is what I like. Never been much for slow jams and 80's was mostly pop and synth stuff. =]
I like artists such as :
Michael Jackson (thriller, billy jean, Remember the time, smooth criminal to name a few favs)
Janet Jackson (everytime, lets wait a while, rythm nation, what have you done for me lately)
Madonna (like a virgin, material girl, vogue, erotica)
Cindy Lauper (girls just want to have fun, good enough, she bop)
George Michael (currently listening to I want your sex actually! faith is another one I like)
Wham! (last christmas, wake me up before you gogo)
Annie Lennox (is she the early 90's? Sweet dreams are made of this, whos' that girl)
Prince (when doves cry, purple rain)
David Bowie (space oddity anyone? might be from late 70's though haha. China girl, ashes to ashes)
Falco (yes, german rap! hehe. Der Kommisar, Rock me Amadeus)
The Bangles (walk like an egyptian, eternal flame, hazy shade of winter)
The Waitresses (I know what boys like)
Sting and the police (Don't stand so close to me, roxanne, every breath you take)
Paula Abdul (c'mon, opposites attract is so catchy. and straight up too!)
Aerosmith (walk this way, dude looks like a lady, janie's got a gun)
Duran Duran (girls on film, a view to kill)
Culture club (time, do you really want to hurt me, Karma Chameleon)
Some random (a few one hit wonders) 80's songs I like come to mind as well:
Soft cell - tainted love
Aha - take on me
Rick Astley - never going to give you up
The vapors - turning japanese
Halls and Oats - maneater
Gary numan - cars
Nena - 99 red balloons
Lipps inc - funky town

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U (is that the 80's?)
Dire straights - money for nothing
Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)
Loverboy - Working For The Weekend
Come on Eileen (can't remember who by)
Billy Idol - White Wedding
Frankie goes to hollywood - relax
XTC - dear god
Peter Cetera - Glory of Love
Cutting Crew - I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight
80s - Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer
Toto - Africa
Murray Head - One Night in Bangkok
Scarface Soundtrack - Push It to the Limit
Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of The Heart - Soft Rock - 80's
Tracy Chapman - Fast Car

Yeah, The Smiths were the greatest in the '80s (especially to the old-school indie kids.)
The most of their existing songs are awesome.
Other '80s greats are:
The early '80s stuff from The Clash, The Jam and Blondie!
I don't know if Joy Division counts as an '80s band... because they started in the late '70s and ended exactly in 1980. But later they made great '80s music as New Order.

anyway. I didn't really like 80s music, not the rock-ish stuff at least. I liked songs like Take My Breath Away HAHA. I did love the music before and after the 80s though (70s and 90s)

Charmless man? Don't you mean "This Charming Man"?

hahahha, yes i meant 'this charming man'. i was listening to Blur's charmless man while writing it.
i wasn't born in the 80s, though some of the great musicians blossomed in that time. my friend has been introducing me to some 80s tunes and i'm liking them so far. but Tainted Love is by far the catchiest song and probably the most covered song in music history....

vc1188 - lol yeah, take my breath away is a good song. I consider the 80's old.. I'm almost 18 too and it seems old to me since we weren't even 2 when the 90's rolled around
amaya0625 - oh yes, RTT is from the 90's now that I think about it. I do mostly bundle Mj's music as being the 80's though, since that was the peak of his influence. I was his biggest fan when I was 13-14. I lived and breathed MJ haha serioussss. When I become obsessed, I'm OBSESSED although it never lasts too long.
Shh, I have an 80's secret. I currently have the biggest crush on george michael in his Wham! and Faith (his first solo album) days. Too bad he's gay... and now 43 =P
(right) You can't deny it - he was damn cute. ;D *sigh*
