I'm going to apply for Mesa, because that's the advice I was given by former UCI students and because they're slightly bigger rooms. ^^ I sent in the first part of the housing with the $20...the one where you put your first and second choice between residence halls and arroyo vista...but I haven't been able to access the next part of the housing. Does it take a while to process if you send it by check? Hmm...

I'm majoring in poli sci...maybe pre law? I dunno yet though...

mesa guys can always walk over to middle earth, especially if you have classes around the area (which you probably will).. brandywine is right off ring road, very accessible, kinda busy.. food is "OK" u will get homesick thats fosho, sandwiches, no matter how good they are get old hella quick.

ooo yay a thread just for us. btw I started a blogring for UCI c/o 2010 cuz I got really bored one morning. hahha join!

I plan on applying for Mesa, though I'm not completely sure yet. Mesa's newer and has bigger rooms and more storage, but then ME seems more convenient to me, with a gym and two dining halls, and it's smack dab in the middle of a lot of buildings so it's easier to get to class. I just realized that if I lived in Mesa and wanted to go to the gym, I'd have to go all the way to the opposite end of the campus for the ARC

I'm majoring in sociology, though that's not set in stone. I might change it to economics or something x_x

the gym is quite subpar, and you would go to the arc anyways.. you can take the shuttle there.

yeah the ARC is about a mile from Mesa but if you want you can just take the bus to the ARC. And the food is better in Middle but I think that both were pretty bad

^ crap. it's that bad huh? -__- It's so hard to weigh the pros and cons of both Mesa and ME. aaaaargh

Mesa: bigger rooms, more storage, newer in general
ME: better food, closer to everything

live in mesa. u can always go to ME for grub. a lot of people make the walk there, or you just end up having classes near by.

if you're more of an artsy major, you'll probably end up in ME.

I went to Celebrate UCI today and am really glad that I did go. I took a campus tour and a housing tour of both residence halls. Both Mesa Court and Middle Earth have their pros and cons, and I still don't know which I'd rather live in. Mesa's rooms are not that much bigger than ME's, or maybe it depends on how you use your space. My friend was a tour guide for ME, so I went with her and saw her room. Her and her roommate, who is also a friend of mine, have a lot of space still and their room is really nicely decorated. I loved it, so I'm kind of leaning towards ME. Plus, it's like right across from the Social Sciences building, and I'm a Poli Sci major. But I love the campus, and am glad that I now know for sure that I made the right choice. smile.gif

It's also a plus that there's a beautiful park in the middle and that the beach is quite close! biggrin.gif

Ooh yeah, something else I found out from going to the housing tour: they're going to change the meal plans for next year. There are still 3 plans, but now they're like 100 meals per quarter plus 75 Flex Dollars, something like that. The meal plans will include a number of Flex Dollars which you can use at any of the other eateries on campus (like coffee shops and the Cornerstone Cafe and such). I like that idea, gives a little more variety. smile.gif

dont worry bout it smile.gif
if you live at any of the dorms on campus, you can eat at any dining hall at any time (Granted they're open).

even people who dont can pay after 3pm for like $7-$8. forgot the price.

i suppose that might tickle your fancy, but after you consider how expensive places like phoenix grill and corner stone are (and how much their food still sucks.. as in, you can get better OFF campus) you might want to consider a cheaper meal plan.

oh and by the way, cornerstone is being torn down sometime soon and it's goign to turn into a starbucks.
