i have yet another question..
my friend was unable to take the writing placement test in may and i think is planning on taking it in september. hwo does she register for english classes if she hasn't taken the test yet? do they drop/keep her after the score comes out?

since you register for classes online, i dont think they let you enroll unless they have a record of you already having satisfied the placement test. i'm not sure though.

Hi Tammy biggrin.gif

Does anyone know what type of classes we take in college? Is it like high school with a math, science, english, elective class?

you need a math and english class..and elective classes. im also taking a history of economics class too as my elective and towards my major. lots of my friends @ UCD are taking chem+physics..and it depends on what major u're going for? hiii^^ maybe we should all get together next year! all the freshmen^^

Hi lil0vi3tpryd3r! biggrin.gif I agree, the freshmen should get together. It's never to late to make new friends.

I was wondering, if I plan to take chemistry in the 1st year, should I take the chemistry placement test? I mean, I took chemistry back in sophomore year in high school and I don't remember much... =_=;;

Hey!v Glad to see so many people are going to Davis. For the question about the writing test, she can take the test in the begging of the year and if she does not passes she would have to take wld 57 for a quarter. Or if she took AP english and got a 3 or highter I think. Or if her SAT English score was high, but not sure about that now since it changed.

For LYRA if you plan on taking chemistry I suggest you brush up on ur chem, juz review before summer advising since it is then that you would be taking the chemistry placement. good luck!

^ My friend said you had to score a 680 on the SAT II English to fulfill the writing test requirement.
For the AP English test, are you sure it's a score 3 and higher? I thought it would be a 4 or something...

SwtAznStar18, I've re-thought about taking chemistry. I remember the torture of that class more than learning anything... x_x

yepp. it is a score of 3 or higher on the AP english test. here's a more detailed list i got from the site:

* 30 or better on the ACT Combined English/Writing test; or
* 680 or better on the College Board SAT-II Writing Test; or
* 680 or better on the College Board SAT Reasoning Test, Writing section; or
* 3, 4 or 5 on either Advanced Placement (AP) Examination in English; or
* 5 or above on an International Baccalaureate High Level English A exam
* 6 or above on an International Baccalaureate Standard Level English A exam

so how did everyone's orientation go?
well i met two ppl, so i'm happy lol.
but to be honest, there's not much to do in orientation
all i did was take photo id, go to see advisor about my transfer courses, register for classes. and then sort of walked around with the two ppl i met.

for the noobies to the republic of davis tongue.gif
if you get the chance, move out of dorms! much more relaxed and less worries about drunken roommates with tons of noise. but you must check ur leases/rental agreements. try to go for 6months rent. you dont want to be stuck with ppl u cant stand. try craigslist.

well davis is the little town thats an hour from s.f and an hour from the mountains. you either love it or hate it. there are farmer's market on wed afternoonish night and sat morning. a few park movie showings, a great 4th of july firework show, one korean market, 2 korean resturants (manna is good). dont worry there is a pretty good amount of korean culture outside of davis in sacramento. get a bike (don't got for looks/its all about comfort and lightness) get a bike light too (210 fine at night without one) oh, dont drink and drive you bike (b.u.i are costly too).
if your a guy your lucky, women outnumber men this year. and they seem to all wear short skirts at times while on their bikes in summer and spring. there's more to davis, but i'm too lazy to list it here. but if you want to know just ask away and i'll try to anwser them happy.gif

You have the option of taking the workload class, or retake the chem test when school starts and pass it in order to take chem.
