I believe September 17 is when the money is issued out to pay your tuition fees.

And I was wondering if anyone knew anything about that Blue and Gold Scholarship? They said it was supposed to be issued out along with financial aid and everyone was supposed to receive it if you were enrolled at least as a part time student? Because that's about 7k more I could use....

I took CHN 2 and CHN 3 last year. I took Mandarin at a community college last summer so I was able to place out of CHN 1. Chinese is a lot of work but learning any new language requires a lot of time and effort. At Davis, they only teach you simplified characters, unlike at the community college where I first took Chinese and was taught both traditional and simplified. They used to teach both traditional and simplified but I think the reason they switched to just simplified was that a lot of students studying abroad went mostly to mainland China and never used the traditional characters. Even though Chinese is a lot of work, I also think that it is really fun. The two teachers that I've had so far, Lu laoshi and Wang laoshi (the younger one since there are two), are both really nice and enthusiastic about teaching. Wang laoshi would always play Chinese music videos before class and we even watched dramas and movies a couple times.
If you do take Chinese, be prepared for daily homework as there is always something due whether it be character workbook, workbook, dialogues, or quizzes to study for. The amount of work varies by teacher but it can be quite a load. You will also be expected to go visit the Chinese tutors to get help with pronunciation, grammar, or other things like homework. With Lu laoshi, I went to the tutors maybe like 4-5 times the entire quarter but with Wang laoshi I was there 1-2 times a week because we had to go once for every dialogue that we read from the book. I will actually be taking CHN 4 in the fall and hope to finish up through CHN 6 but it's hard fitting in a language class that meets at the same time, five days a week. I don't even need to be taking language classes since I'm getting a BS degree but it's a nice break from all the science classes that I'm taking. Hope this helps!

I had a friend who did that a few times last year during spring quarter. There were days she didn't feel like biking so she walked from Wellman to Geidt with only a 10 minute passing. She made it in class on time, but then again, she was a pretty fast walker. I think if you'll make it Just don't lollygag and drag your feet. xD
I think you have to take a Chinese placement test if you want to sign up for a Chinese language class even if you do not have any prior experience whatsoever. I think that's the "prereq"... sort of. (:

Like JAMIESHOCK said, you do have to take the placement test even if you've never studied Chinese before. I don't think that they would really make you take the test and would probably just give you the piece of paper saying what level of Chinese you should be in. The placement test itself is actually pretty hard. There are a bunch of multiple-choice questions, then you have to write a letter in Chinese, then converse with one of the Chinese teachers before they decide where you should be placed. Even my friend who was born in Hong Kong and is a native speaker thought that the test was hard.
If you really want to take Chinese, CHN 1 is only offered Fall Quarter so you would have to take it now or wait a year. CHN 1 is offered in fall, CHN 2 in winter, and CHN 3 in spring. Japanese and a few other languages courses are like that too since they aren't as popular as say Spanish or French. In CHN 1, you start off learning pinyin and the four different tones before moving onto simple characters and grammar so the class is intended for people who have no prior Chinese experience.

Did you do find that the IGETC was easier/better to complete, or was TAG?
For IGETC transfers, did you have to complete all of the major prep to get admission?
(There's one class I need to take that isn't offered anywhere near me)
How do you enjoy the rez halls for transfers, or apartments?
I'm in my first year of CC right now, and I really REALLY want to go to UCD.

Be sure to talk to the counselors at your CC so you can plan out your year(s) at CC before your transfer. My friend, who is majoring in bio, did not need to finish the IGETC since they have a specific program/schedule for bio majors transferring to UCD. He ended up taking a couple of classes he didn't need to take, but he was also able to take easier math courses. So yeah, do talk to the counselors. And sometime before you transfer (maybe the summer before you transfer), be sure to drop by UCD to talk to counselor and major adviser to help plan out your upcoming years early. You want to be prepared!...just because its good to be prepared haha.
Grrr, I just have to find a job, or even better, a paid internship. My FA is not nearly as much as the amount my friends received in previous years so I only have just enough to pay for tuition. Plus I heard UCD might be increasing their tuition in the upcoming year so a job is a must for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a paid internship so it'll be easier for me to get a job after I graduate xD.

Yes, if you go through the Silo parking lot. How fast you walk really depends on how motivated you are in getting to your next class

Do we need to bring textbooks to class on the first day? Can ground shipping companies like fedex and ups ship to our dorm addresses (are there people at davis that pick up these kind of packages for you)?
I will find a way even without wings.
