-i was just wondering how the class was..it fit perfectly into my schedule so i registered for it but i wasn't sure what it was about. also, what goes on during discussion?
-was your professor Kyu H. Kim?
-what textbook did you use? i emailed the professor and he said one of the main textbooks we'd use was "heritage of japanese civilization" by albert m. craig
*this is kind of a general question but do professors use the same textbook every quarter?*

And the textbooks depend on the professor. Usually they change it up every quarter/year. I had different textbooks...one was a text and the other was a complilation of Japanese lit.

DividedByZero- i can't help it if i want to give these new freshman a heads up..just part of personality =) i mean, would u like me to be rude and ignore u when u "seek my services?" =p lol..
of course, it's alright to give them a heads up..... but to say they're totally gonna get lost for all eternity in there [i'm paraphrasing =P] is a bit much. i dont think there are even classes within socsci... just the lecture hall and the three rooms down below.
and i dont want you to be rude when i go to seek your services [i'm currently #1 on the wait-list btw] but if you're gonna destroy all hope and say i'm hopeless to learn chinese i might have to re-consider =P
oh yeah.. and just call me Phil.

seems like i won't be going to ucdavis after all, since i was offered admission to dental school in HKU.
i was notified so late coz i was on the waiting list. and i didnt expect i would get in.
but yeah seems like i'll be staying in HK for quite some time if i really plan to pursue dentistry as my career.

I know that classes haven't started yet, but I was wondering how Thanksgiving break will work. Do people go home after all their classes are over on Wednesday, or do they just leave whenever they want? Sorry for such a random question =P.
Ps. Is anyone living at Tercero South? =]

dude, that's awesome. as a pre-dent myself, i'm sorta jealous. but yeah, good luck man... can't believe you get to bypass the DATs and the 1564968456 page AADSAS stuff though... lucky you.
Chaos: it's college. do whatever the heck you want. you don't have to go to any of your classes if you don't want to.
Tami: you're mean... you big meany-poo-poo-butthead-face.

I'm taking workload classes.... on the site, it says that the credits for those classes are 0 which makes my total unit less than 13. What is that suppose to mean? I thought that workload classes can be applied to the minimum progress policy... and each can be count as 3 units. Help?
Also, I'm planning to retake the chem and math test... If I pass them, then I can change to regular class immediately.. online, correct?
Hehe. I'm such a newbie.

well, sometimes workload classes doesnt show how much units it has, like my linguistic 22 class (like another workload class) doesnt show the units only either and it should be around 4 units (depends on how many hours per week for the class)
for the tests, i'm not really sure because i pass my math test and didnt take my chem... LOL... but i doubt that you can change or get into a regular class immediately... basically all those classes are much full now... unless you're put onto waitlist
oh yea, i'm an incomming freshman at uc davis
major: computer science (but imma change to undeclare)
residence: tercero pierce m

i hope someone reads this in time..
am i allowed to take econ1b if i haven't taken econ1a?
yes.
hey i have a really important question which advisors in davis don`t even seem to know
i took a class over the summer and its processing atm
can i take it again fall quarter and get credit and a grade? or one or the other?
my advisor seems to think you can
but he didn`t sound so sure.
i dont think you can, unless you took it P/NP. if you take a class for a grade and get higher than a C-, you can't retake that same course.
also, do you think i can go from wellman to science lecture hall(?) area in 10 minutes?
yes
Damn. I hope someone can answer me.

Workload classes are 0 in ways of units that count toward graduation... they do count for "workload" units that are a requirement for a full-time student. Also I said this earlier about taking workload classes.
Workload is nothing to be ashamed of. Believe me, if you feel like you don't know anything from hs chem like the back of your hand DO NOT rush yourself. If you do take CHE2A fall quarter, you're gonna be in the same class with all the smart-ass people who mess up the curve, if you take workload and then take CHE2A winter quarter, there are less super geniuses to mess up the curve for you thus making it easier. I took all the science classes and everything on quarter because I didn't take workload [When I took the placement test, I actually placed into CHE2AH but took CHE2A], although I wish I had because I wasn't prepared as much as the others. Take that into consideration before you try to cram and barely pass by the placement test.
don't rush yourself.
