Yesterday I took a test in class and this guy kept hitting my knee with his knee and it actually really hurt. The professor just sits in front of the class and wasn't paying attention and this guy sits very close to me and he was pointing at a part of the test paper and I think he was asking for the answer but he just decides to turn the page on my paper himself. I was really shocked and I was kind of behind in time for Part II of it and just kept writing but what should I do because I already asked the guy what his problem was. The worst part is even though it's college classes, the professor gave us assigned seats and that guy was a senior Caucasian (Jewish) guy and I'm an Asian girl and I'm not sure if this is normal for him to think something about Asian girls to be so bluntly intrusive during a test???? I'm actually not sure what happeneed there? Since it's assigned seating if I tell the professor it's obvious which guy was bothering me so what can I do or what should I do? I guess I'm more afraid that the professor will say something about similar answers also? It really gets me angry and I want to do something but not sure if I should. I also kind of always feel bad for students if they don't know an answer and I like helping so I think that's what kept me from telling the professor right away. But this guy was just rude.

if his actions were persistent then what i would've done was to tell the professor after class or before one day.. best to let him know otherwise if you do get caught, teacher might think ur an accomplice to his cheatings.. but this is what i'd do..

First off, I don't understand what you being Asian and him being Caucasian has to do with any of this. Maybe I'm just slow.

Secondly, tell him straight up to stop bothering you during tests because you don't want to get kicked out of school because someone else is cheating off of you. Don't feel bad for him because he doesn't know the anwer, that's his problem. He should be studying the material.

If he keeps bothering you, tell the professor. Yeah you might feel guilty, but why? You shouldn't be. It's his fault for not studying, and do you really wanna be the poor bystander who gets punished because you couldn't stand up for yourself?
Please don't forget me. { I'm going away. }
I'm taking a taxi to Kentucky where they don't even know all about me. I just need to feel s a f e.
I've got a thousand sweaters, and shoes, and paintings to hide the skeletons in my way.
But he said, "Slow down, slow down. Think it over, we've all got wretched closets, but silly girl pride kills more than Aids lately."
I said, "Come on, I thought it over. I don't wanna die here. I have no desire to get mrried."
Every night I pray for you, don't believe in heaven or that it could be a happy place.

what the heck? why on earth do you want to be an accomplice to a guy who hits you repeatedly on your knee until it hurts and then takes your test from you WHILE YOU'RE WORKING ON IT so he can mooch off you? seriously, what are you protecting here? i don't know that it's a race thing, but obviously that guy thought he could take advantage of you and you wouldn't say or do anything about it. why prove him right? you don't owe him any favors.

think of it this way. you might think there's little chance the professor will find out the similarity between the answers, but i assure you it could happen. this guy i dated last semester was a graduate student instructor, and he looked out actively for matching answers on the students' reports and such. he reported entire groups of kids to the professor and to honors council. one of those students, i believe, is currently on probation for what he did. it will go on his record. so if you don't take initiative and report that guy to the professor, you might be the one in trouble, and no one's going to believe you when you're on the defensive.

Seriously. This is COLLEGE. You will get kicked out for giving answers to others for a test. Take the right action.

yeah. like everyone said. Don't let the guy push u around. First off if he did it once, then he'll for sure do it again. Nextime, you guys might not be soo lucky. And also, it's not fair for yourself. You worked hard to study for the material. To have some one disregard your feelings and steal ur paper that is just wrong.

You shouldn't bother talking to the dude, as he wouldn't give a rats ass about what he did to you. Just go up to the professor, or if you want you could send an email to the professor talking about the incident. This way if something did happen, you won't get in trouble and also it won't happen again.

Yeah, I second this. I know people from my college that have been kicked out for cheating and for giving answers as well.

Just ask to be assigned a new seat. If you need a reason, tell the instructor you can better hear him, see the blackboard, or pay attention to him from another seat. Students do this all the time. He won't ask any questions. If he's seating students so close together during tests, he probably doesn't have the brains to scratch his own arse.

Someone else can put up with the moron sitting next to you. (This will probably happen more than once, don't make a habit of getting pushed around.) Everyone's right. Cheating is an ugly stain on your record. Don't do it.

^ Yea actually I never thought about that. I just assumed that assigned seats were final. I guess as you get older it feels like I question authority less or it's more classless to question and debate against your professor's actions or any one in an authority position.

Thank you everyone for your input. This incident gave me a few extra sleepless nights because of the seemingly added pressure it put on me. I got this test back last week and instead of me and that guy next to me getting failed grades and questionable remarks, 3 other people got red marks on their paper saying they fail for having the same wording. I've asked for separate seating for the final coming up. And it's the fact that I did study hard for it that I felt a greater dilemma and a sense of loss but also that the guy was so rude. He was red in the face when we got our tests back because I said, "Whatever" when he said, "Thanks, It's cause of you I got a B instead of a C". I just didn't understand where he had the audacity to knock his knee against mine and flip the page of my test paper.

Thank you for your support everyone and encouragment to talk to the professor. Sometimes when I'm facing a problem I can't see the solution as quickly or the options for my actions and this was just one of those times. You know when your brain feels numb and you can't think for yourself anymore....well thank you.

in my school there are a lot of cheaters ... but the professors just let them do that ...

I hate it ... the prof. even gives them high grades ... than we ... who never cheats !!!

SO if I were you you better tell your prof. this incident.... atleast your prof. might be on your side ... unlike me.

I'm glad everything worked out for you. But i hope the next time some guy harasses you like that during an exam, that you would be less passive about it. It was a $40,000+ investment you almost lost there. Be stronger and socker punch anyone who thinks they have a right to cheat off you just being you're an Asian girl.

laugh.gif trust me, nobody would stop to consider whether asking for a different seat is classy not blink.gif

if it were me, i'd throw his hand away and ask for a different seat and extra time. there's no question about whether it's right or wrong to do so.

1. if he didn't study, he shouldn't be rewarded for doing so.
2. your college has an obligation to provide a safe and fair learning environment for everyone.
3. you need to be focussed and making the most of the time given to you in a test.
4. if your grades are distributed on a curve and he gets a better grade than what he should've got, he will be compressing the curve, which has the potential to actually lower your final grade.
5. "i'll just stand by and let bad things happen to me" is not a very "classy" attitude either sweatingbullets.gif
