Anyong hasayo.

I posted this in the main Korean music forum but was directed to try here as everyone was flooding me with k-pop. I am looking to sample all the different genres of Korean music, not just pop, and am looking for suggestions on good bands. While I want to sample everything to get a good grasp of the culture (especially the old folk songs), my English music tastes are hardcore techno (DJ Lord, anyone?) and symphonic metal (Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody, Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Nightwish, Hammerfall... oh, and Rammstein, though that isn't symphonic or English).

I really am looking for a good band/CD from all areas of interest. I already have lylic coverred.

Kamsahamida.

P.S. I need to find a good Korean keyboard.

For the symphonic metal stuff I'd go with Jeremy (예레미) - Their song Acts is great, and I'm pretty fond of everything on their Exodus, Part II album as well. You could also try Gaia for some melodic metal mixed up with some Korean folk instruments - They have made the most awesome Boohwal cover, ever, and a The Kovenant song is covered on their album too.

And just because they released the best album of last year: try Omega 3 - Alternative rock with a keyboard instead of a guitar biggrin.gif

I second this recommendation as well ^^;;. Great blend of instruments with an awesome sound.

Well, since I don't listen to metal music, I can't really help THAT much. And I don't listen to hardcore techno really... sorry.

Sweet. What genre are all those artists? I just started Korean and can't read all that yet.

And, sadly, the annyoung links gave me a 404 error.

I just noticed that they gave errors. I fixed the Schizo one.

I guess they're mostly metal. If you want some mainstream stuff, Seo Taiji stuff is really, really easy to find.
