Like the topic says, what happens to your grades when you change a major?

And if you want to change your major should you do it asap? or after 1 year or so?

Thanks everyone!

I plan to take Biomed. Engineering and if things get hard I might switch to Bio.

the grades still stay in your transcript.

it's just a matter of whether or not that course you've taken is relevant to the major you want to switch to. if you want to switch, the best time to do so is before your junior year, at most. because by junior year, you're taking courses that are no longer part of your school's gen ed program. you're taking courses for the major itself. so i suggest that once you're sure of the major you want to be in, transfer as soon as possible. you don't want to take more classes then switch majors only to find out that the classes you've taken are no longer required for your new major.

If you want to change your major do so before 1st yr.
1st yr are basically core subjects that the uni makes you do and in 2nd yr you get to pick your majors. So best to change asap if your mind is set on it.

If both majors are related, you shouldn't have nearly a hard time compared to if they were totally different. If you're thinking of switching, I would find out what the degree requirements are for both majors. Compare and see which classes are required for both. Most people decide during the first or second year, but I honestly wouldn't rush it. Take your time and make sure the decision is the right one. Once you've made up your mind though, change ASAP.

Like everyone said, the grades you have now will stay on your transcript.
Whether the grades matter to your major field is up to your choice.

I didn't change my major, instead I just stacked one major on another because I was interested in multiple fields. I first started out with two majors and was going drop one of them after I decide which one I like better but I ended up doing both...or all, I should say...[3]

^Exactly. You want to decide within your first two years, if possible. If you already know you want to change, you can.
