Hey guys, I'm going to be a senior next year and I can't decide between AP micro/macro economics or AP CHem? Or should I take macro instead of both or vice versa?

WHich one is harder? I have never taken economics, let alone AP micro/macro economics, so i have no idea how hard it is. >.<

Please help me out! thks! smile.gif

i liked chem until i met the teacher from hell. shes a great teacher but wow is she tough.

economics initially was hard.. well not hard but difficult to comprehend with all the technical jargon. i took it my first semester and now a semester later, the economics feels much easier.

chem is way harder than economics.

I'm in AP Chem right now, and I'm seriously about to die. All of the kids in the class took Honors Chemistry with the AP Chem teacher last year, and I was in plain ole' Chemistry two years ago.

If you're taking Chemistry this year, and you're doing well in the class, then I think you should go for it. I took AP Chem cause of my major in college, so I guess there are some other factors that come with taking AP classes. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to take.

Go with AP Economics unless you're uber good at chemistry. I thought I could handle AP Chem with just a summer course completed... boy was I wrong. If you've had at least a good solid year of chemistry (good teacher, good grades, did well) go for it.
I think AP Econ is a lot easier though.

Depends on your teacher.

Macroeconomics is by far harder than AP Chem at our school.

Our macro teacher is stupid. And I'm not joking.

So ask around at your school.

Macro is not supposed to be a hard class, but when your teacher gets mixed up with classical and keynesian economics, you're going to get screwed over.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!

i took AP Chem and i'm in AP Macroecon..
both were/are fairly easy, but i think that depends on the teacher you get. you might want to ask around your school and find out whether the teachers are any good or not sweatingbullets.gif
but econ is basically common sense, so i think i'd recommend that =]

I took AP Microeconomics this year since my school doesn't offer the AP Macroeconomics course, but I found out that it was an interesting subject to learn, well in my opinion it is! So take it!

I took both in HS. Are you good at chem? If you've never been exposed to econ, it's not easy. If you did well in chem and you've heard good things about the teacher, go for AP chem. It's like math. It's not hard if you practice a lot. (You definitely have to set aside time for this. It's not optional.)

As for econ, I took macro, not micro. I don't think there'd be a huge difference in terms of difficulty, but for a beginner, I'd probably suggest at least macro first.

Btw, do you know what you want to do in the future? That makes a difference.

The thing is, macro is offered in the spring only and micro in the fall......

And yeah, i kinda heard bad things about the ap chem.....basically, if you get a good teacher, you're saved.....but there are a couple of "bad" teachers in my school, and if i want to switch teacher next year, it won't be easy.........

anyways, thks for the responses biggrin.gif I have decided to take AP M/M economics......since we probably have to take chem and bio again in college.....and also, i really want to take other science electives even though they are not aps, but are related to the medical field. >.< but i can't decide on what my major will be: business or medical? LOL

agreed. all the theories can be mind boggling.
eh, i picked up a copy of kaplin's ap econ book.
hopefully i'll be okay by may 11 =T

well, you're gonna be a senior next year?
if you're better with science, go for chem. if you're more interested in business/logic, go for econ.

My school doesn't have ap economics. Take them. AP chem is soooooo hard and it's not useful unless you're heading in that direction

I think AP Macroeconomics is easier, since it seems like most theories are self-explanatory.

.. Unlike chemistry.

so.. what if you don't have a solid chem year (good teachers, etc.) and your school doesn't have AP CHEM. Is it going to be really really touch in college?
you can pm me if you have any questions.

The colleges will know that your school doesn't offer AP Chem then
