Guys there's this virus on MSN IM and ugh! It has affected me and my contacts!

The stupid file like... It IMs my friends and tries to send them a file called "IMG-0012.rar"

Then a message under it says: "Hey! Remember this picture of you from before? lOL"

And my contacts should know I don't type perfect english like THAT. Has anyone been getting this? What do I do?

I did a virus scan today with Avast! Antivirus but it says no virus O_O I guess it can't detect it on msn. But I really need help here. Please help.

OMG... The same thing happned to me too. Well I didn't do it, but my brother received a message like that while
IM'ing a friend. He tried to download that picture file and now our computer is slow and there are loads of windows
popping up. Anyone have ideas how to solve this problem? Is it a virus???? HELP!

Can anyone help me? I have this IEDefender pop up and Personal Optimizor or PC Secure Safe toolbar (all that spywares) that totally hijacked my browser and kept popping up! Does anyone know how to get rid of it? I tried the system removal thing, but the thing is I didn't realise it was off the whole entire time so the most recent check point is AFTER I somehow accidently installed the virus so yeah....any help?

=[ I feel bad for neglecting the forums.
If you can, do a system restore it works wonders.

eugene, if you can't manage to get a system restore working a quick fix is to scan and remove the stuff with Hijackthis... it wont get rid of all the spyware but it will get it out of your hair for a little while. Then do the standard Adaware scans and stuff.

Angelic Girl, yes that sounds like a virus. If you can system restore. If you cant system restore, scan with adaware and a good antivirus. In addition dowload CCLeaner and do a good cleanup of your computer. It should hopefully help.

I actually dont know if this is the right place to ask, but these days, my AVGs been detecting 'Trojan Generic8.CZC' ...it just keeps coming back. Even when i heal it, or sent it to my virus fault. The trojan occurs in the temp folder and sometimes the C:RECYCLER (which i cant find) . Anyone know how i can solve this?
And im not sure if this relates, but now when i click on links, it makes a slow reaction. Like you have to wait around 2-5 seconds until it makes the click noise.

That sounds like you have a lot of viruses and spyware consider using a online antivirus scanner to get some cleaning variety. And then scan with spyware scanners such as adaware.

Usually if things open randomly like you aren't clicking anything and pages pop up its a good indicator. Program like adaware doesn't hurt though

I guess I'm the latest person to need help!

The problem started yesterday afternoon. I was just browsing a forum I frequent for years, and then a bunch of popups started appearing. I kept seeing "Internet speed monitor..." and "Root.Stardoor", etc. These made my computer so slow and I tried exiting each one, but every couple of minutes more would show up.

I also noticed a new folder appear in My Document. I tried deleting that but it wouldn't let me, saying the application is in use. Then I checked the Start Up section, to see if anything new was installed. Turns out 2 programs installed by themselves "ISM" and "Outerinfo" I uninstalled both of them, and restarted my computer.

I even had problems starting my computer. It would boot for a little bit and then the screen would be black, and then it started up again. So I tried the "last known good configuration" and "safe mode". I had to alternate between the two (AND turn the power switch off) multiple times before successfully getting into my computer again.

The Internet speed monitor was gone, but the "Root.Stardoor" ads kept showing up once in a while. And then I left for work today thinking everything was ok.
................

I come home and then noticed a couple ads had popped up. The Root.Stardoor and a couple less indecent ads. So I started yahoo-ing for some answers. I ended up d/l SUPERANTISPYWARE (aka SAS for short) and ran that. I did a complete scan and found 500 infected files!!!!! So I quarantined that and restarted my computer. I had the same rebooting problems as the other times I restarted my pc *sigh*

And then I ran the SuperAntiSpyware again, and found 20 more infected. I removed everything that was in the Quaratine, and did a third scan. Found 40 infected. All of these were "ADWARE..." and "TROJANS"

The popups are less now, but everytime I open a new IE browser, an ad (ie: IMVU) would pop up. I'm currently have the free version of SAS running. I know that for the premium SAS, there's the real time ad blocker but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to get rid of these spywares/viruses for free first??

A couple basic info--I have Windows XP and use Internet Explorer. I always worry that my pc is going to die on me, and I suck at all the tech aspect of computers, so please help.

Your assistance is highly appreciated!!

is the adaware/spybot combo still the best free and minimal-effort anti-spyware solution out there?

I keep getting error messages regarding "ntapl.exe" and "ntapli.exe". I tried googling it and one of them comes on on some malware site but apparently they're not really popular because I can't really find any info on them >0< Help? >_<

I scanned my computer about a billion times, I'm thinking it came from some Korean source because my sister goes on Korean websites a lot...and she doesn't know what the heck she's doing..

Thank you`~

personally i believe that adware/spybot combo is still the best for spyware removal. also somtimes using avg antispyware (previously ewido) can help. as far as malware you should try asquared. it is also good practice to run hijackthis.

Yeah. Anymore is a manually checked hijack this scan, log, and manual google. Antiviruses always help as well.

O_o that auto restarting is a very bad thing!!
Do you have the XP Cd? Do a XP repair install and hope it can fix it for you. With any luck it wont destroy anything.

A very brutal approach is to use search>> find the location of the files..
Then get a program called killbox (google it) and use anyway they offer to delete the files. A lot of times you break enough of a spyware / malware it will stop bugging you. Can't say it will 100% be gone but should be broken.

Sure, System Restore is easiest and fastest. If it doesn't work, HOPE adaware can get rid of it. Then you panic and search whatever name you can get on google and hope they can help. Last resort? Repair install haha

Yeahh run hijack this occasionally. Get familiar with what normally runs so when something goes wrong you can spot the differences.

Sigh.

Dealing with a Virtumonde/Vundo infestation.
Goodness.
The "fun" kind where once you catch hold of the responsible suckers (namely ljjkl.exe, ljjkl.dll, a billion other annoying-ass .dlls, and an injected run32dll.exe and ctfmon.exe which clones itself as "ctfmon .exe"), it just clones itself at startup through an infected hidden file.
So the only way to actually fix it is to find and delete EVERY SINGLE .dll in a single go... and there's about 20 of them.
I've tried about 10 times already (and I have to system scan each time which takes like 40 min), but always missed 1-2 .dlls and had to restart the ENTIRE process.
Oh. And for a cherry on top, there's a keylogger embedded in the worm. Sexy.
So I can't even get on AIM, my bank account, or anything else that needs my universal password.
Too late for a System Restore, too.

To re-iterate... sigh.

I'm tired of resuscitating this damn-ass pile of junk computer over and over again (probably like the eighth time).
Just gonna grab a new computer and send this one to the depths of hell.
* sheds a sentimental tear *
Grip me with your eyes.

Why not just format it?

You will loose everything but hey! Its almost like a new computer without the cost!

whoops almost skipped over you!

How long ago did it start? If you're lucky you can use system restore to undo it. If you aren't lucky... well sweatingbullets.gif time to work on it slowly. Don't install that "official security software" its just more of those spyware and viruses!

Install Adaware, Spybot, and a good antivirus such as AVG free if you dont already have one. Make sure they're updated.
Start the computer in safe mode (if you want unplug the network cable to prevent the spyware from downloading more stuff for you) and start scanning and cleaning.

After that, if anything remains... scan to find the problem programs, google the names if you can... otherwise scan with HijackThis and delete all the weird startup files and assuming you can find the names of the problem programs use KillBox to delete them and hopefully kill it.
