^ then what you need to do is boot into safemode, then ctrl-alt-delete and start End Tasking any unfamiliar programs you see loaded up. Attempt to run your antivirus and antispyware programs to get rid of everything. After that load up windows normally and run HijackThis! and do a scan with it. Unload everything that autoloads itself except for the obviously safe programs like your antivirus, adobe acrobat etc etc. You may need to repeat this last step under every username since each username has it's own seperate programs that it loads up.

Are BHO's bad? Cause I just deleted them all since it can lead to spyware.

Some are useful, like google toolbar or whatever.

BHOs are browesr helper objects. MS made it to let people make programs to make your life easier like firefox extensions. the problem is a lot of programs like to install those "helpers" with spyware or their programs and we dont want it.

could this be spyware?

lately my computer will die, out of nowhere. i just thought it was perhaps that it was getting old, and overheating. but then i noticed that it was running out of space on the hardrive. i download from clubbox, so i stopped downloading, and i also deleted a lot of files. it left me with 11GB out of 69GB. but then a couple of days later, i only had 8 GB left. and a week or two went by, and soon i only had 500MB. so the other day, i deleted more of my files, which left me with 8 GB. and today i only have 2 GB. i've been downloading.. but i've only downloaded 1 episode of a drama, which was 300KB.
is this spyware, of somesort? or is my computer just getting old.. messing up?
i'd really appreciate any type of help/information on what could be the cause of this.
my computer is windows xp.

It's definitely spyware or trojans. Lots of people think there computer is slow because of age, well this is not always true, it mostly because of spyware.

Try to use spybot or ad aware and scan and kill! Also try to scan with a Anti virus
or another problem is spyware are downloading crap form the internet for you.

^^ ahh, i'm so depressed now. but thank you.

i tried spysweeper yesterday, and i had traces of 18 cookies that could've been spyware. then my computer was acting weird today, so i tried spysweeper again, and this time i found 30 traces of spyware. but other than that, the spyware couldn't find anything too big. i also installed norton antivirus, and it said that i have no viruses.
so i dont know what to do... i'll try to go get it checked.
thanks again.

HI awdark!!!! i'll help u here...u really did hijack this place

heres a very nice way to remove viruses...i'm not sure it can do spy/ad ware

Killbox download

Using Kill Box to remove viruses with help of anti-virus software

1. Your antivirus program detected the virus but is unvailable to remove the virus infected file(s).

2.It may (or may not depending on your anti-virus software [McAfee does]) give you a path (example: C:\Windows\.......) **

3.Copy and paste that address into the killbox program in the space called "Full path or File to Delete"

4.press the "X" button and answer yes to the question.

5. restart

6.(optional) You can put in the Win XP Cd to repair damaged areas if any created by the virus(es)
===================================================

***IF YOU DELETE THE WRONG FILE (A REQUIRED SYSTEM FILE) AND YOUR COMPUTER NO LONGER FUNCTION I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DELETED OR YOUR COMPUTER. USE THIS PROGRAM AT YOUR OWN RISK. ***

visit tech-xperts (in signiture there) and post problems to recieve more help and solutions image013.png

**If your anti-virus does not tell you teh path you are screwed.
Your only solutions are:
1. Reformat
2.new anti-virus software that tells path and cont. the above directions.
3.live with the virus on y our comp.
4.get a new comp.

technique by mxth proven and works

does google toolbar actually block popups? because i know IE has an automatic popup blocker too but it doesnt block evry single popup.. it sometimes misses some.
also... has anyone downloaded the new version of bsplayer recently? it's supported by an adware thing called whenu save and to use bsplayer, run you HAVE to have it installed unless you buy the pro version. kinda sucks.

You can run NOD32 which I find to be the most effective anti-virus program out there today. Doesn't hog up resources like Norton or Trend Micro. smile.gif

for hijackthis you should post your results on a forum and get help on what shouldnt be there if you dont know what should and shouldnt be there.

Well this won't work really for everyone. Since hijack this scans the registry, and it gonna show a different list for each person...cause i'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say not everyone has the same programs and apps installed to their computers.

In hijackthis there is an option to print out the list after you scan, if you don't know what any of those processes mean, i suggest you print it out and take it to someone who knows what should and should not be there.

I just basic Ad-aware to locate malicious spyware on customer's computers and try to remove it using ad-aware. if that doesn't work i located it and remove it locally...but it can get fun cause some trojans like to copy themselves elsewhere and then reinstall it self even after you do system restore or delete the file...have to dig in the registry sometimes.

Gahh >_<

I'm having problems with these two nuisances: rundl132.exe and svhost32.exe

I scanned them on hijackthis a couple of days ago, fixed them and also manually went on safemode to delete them sleep.gif;;

The problem is...they keep coming back. I have no idea where I got them from or where I keep getting them from but ... everytime I run hijack this, they're there again.. >_<

I'm also beginning to think this has something to do with my Windows Live Messenger, which had been working fine but now it's not working anymore again. =_=;;; Everytime I open it, it freezes and I have to turn off the computer. I'm also having problems with NATEON (Korean messenger thingy)...whenever I click on it, it doesn't open. Nothing happens. Can someone help me? I really don't wanna reformat again...cause the last time I reformatted was a week ago. *sigh

System Restore
One of the many features that Microsoft included with Windows XP that is actually useful!
So, when you know you did something stupid or your computer did the stupid thing on its own, run system restore and restore to the most recent point.
Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools-> System Restore
Click restore my computer to an earlier point, hit next, choose the date, let the computer restart itself and eventually work again.
Note: System restore fixes .exe .dll and some other files that were changed between that point and now. Your pictures, documents, media are not restored or touched... so if its a fun spyware that screwed it up, it wont fix it.

Just wanted to thank you for starting this topic, and especially talkinga bout System Restore. You saved my computer!!
