Subject: RE: Eddie Curry
I love the Bulls, Really.
I loved the MJ era, lived through the Floyd and Cartwright Era (and am thankfully still alive), and I'm enjoying the Skiles era IMMENSELY, but this whole Eddie Curry thing is bugging the you-know-what out of me. Look, I'm no self declared nerd or whatnot, but I DID major in Biochemistry in college, and am currently working at a pharmaceutical company in R&D, so I do know something about DNA testing. I'm sick of hearing sports writers who don't know SQUAT about DNA testing that are streeeeeeeeetching the argument saying that the Bulls are using the test to find out if Eddie Curry is going to be like this, or going to be like that, going to figure out his personality, whether or not he'll have weak knees, have cancer at the age of 30, yadda yadda, BLAHBLAHBLAH. FIRST, DNA testing does NOT determine outcome; it only measure's probability, especially when it comes to heart disease and even MORE so when it comes to personality traits. DNA is the blue print in which the body creates proteins, of which are the functional unit in the body, assisting in enzymatic reactions in the body, creating second messengers, basically regulating the body's activities. That being said, you cannot, SCIENTIFICALLY, I SAY, CANNOT assume because a psycho killer has a certain DNA "fingerprint", and the dude working the next cubical has a similar fingerprint, he's going to go postal at work. Your nurturing environment has every bit of significance in how you turn out to be as your DNA does.
The problem with Curry is that we've already seen EVIDENCE that He may be developing a deadly heart disease; he's already had to sit out games cause of it, he's already had to go to the hospital because of it. If that's the case, why's everybody dogging my man Paxson for wanting to get a DNA test? If the Nets can rescind a trade based on medical exam that might prove that Abdul Raheem might be prone to knee injuries, why can't the Bulls get information on whether or not Curry is going to have a life threatening heart condition. You really think that Paxson wants a player that might drop dead on the court during practice or in a game? What then? Are people going to be like, "Why couldn't the Bulls make sure that Curry was going to be healthy?" Take that kinda risk/guilt? No way. This whole "invasion of privacy" is completely bogus, you're not going to find out if he's going to be an alcoholic, or an abusive husband, or a jerk, because no lab is dumb enough to jump to those conclusions, because it's not scientifically SOUND, and every analyst out there knows it. So Jim Rome and all those ESPN insiders should 1), do a little more research 2)if they didn't, shut their pie hole, cause it's REALLY annoying. They sound like those geniuses who were CONVINCED that Andro improved hand eye coordination. Paxson's my boy, and he means the best.
That's my word.
Thanks for reading,
I'm out!
