I'm currently a sophomore who really should be studying for AP Biology but this problem has been bothering me for a while.

I really want to go to UCLA, UC Berkeley...yea you get the point.

I took Biology, Algebra II Honors, Honors English, World History, Spanish I, intro robotics last year as a freshman.
I am currently taking Honors English, PreCalculus, AP Biology, Spanish II, adv robotics this year.
I will be taking Psychology, AP English, AP Calc AB, AP physics B, AP US History, Adv robotics, Spanish III next year.

I received a 3.87? during first semester in freshman year since of a B in Algebra II Honors. But during second semester, I had some personal things going on and I really screwed up in Algebra. I ended up getting a D+. Depressing isn't it? B to D basically. The counselors ended up allowing me to drop to Pre Calc this year without retaking the class. I kind of forgot about that whole grade after a while as a sophomore but while I was counseling for junior year, the counselor mentioned that I should retake the class to raise my gpa. Then it hit me again that I really should retake it, and she suggested that I could take it online and all that. Seeing that I got an A no problem for Pre Calc, it should be no problem to ace the make up class, but it bothers me still on how much it will affect my college admission. People say UCs doesn't look at freshman grades but Alegebra II is their required class to pass so I am worried they will just reject me right there since I have that D. It's just been bothering me, and I would appreciate it if I got your take on my situation.

Please and thank you. <3

And GOOD LUCK to everyone with Ap english tomorrow.

such an enticing dream<3

My counselor said they don't look at Freshman grades but Algebra 2 is required sooooo just retake it. They'll take the higher grade and cancel out the lower grade anyways.

Yeah, I'd say just take it. Freshman year may not be as important as all the other years, but competition is getting fierce and schools are getting a tendency to look back at earlier years. I'd say you're on track for getting accepted to a UC, and challenging yourself in the least. So even though it's one D, and you're doing fine with all your other classes, you should re-take it. I don't think it'll affect your college admission a great deal.

I don't think freshman year really counts that much, but our counselors told us that a lot of 4-year colleges don't accept people with D's on their high school transcript, but they might be bsing us, as they do that a lot at our school.

My coach told me they don't really look for freshmen year that much. I THINK only Sophomore and Juniors but you're really going to take all that A.P classes? They're really going to pull your grades down fast. Especially GPA.

even though freshman year doesn't count for much, i think you should retake the algebraII... the uc's don't count a D as a class [so they treat it like you didn't take the class] so you could replace the grade in summer school and that would boost up your gpa a lot.

Usually colleges look at freshman year as a "transitional" year so it doesn't really matter that much grade-wise. But, I think you should retake it. Even though freshman year isn't important, a D+ on your transcript will still look bad.

As long as you dont die next year its ok. But that D does look bad and UCs dont count it as a class if you got a D so... make it up over summer or at a community college. Oh and take classes at a community collge, :] boosters for gpa in a uc. and dont freak out. UCs actually arent that hard to get into. but it doesnt mean you should slack off.

hm. firstly, definitely retake the class for a gpa booster. it's true that uc schools do not look at your freshmen year. however, i think a D is pretty ugly on your report card. since that class is a requirement, i think colleges will definitely look at that grade, even though you took it your freshmen year. it doesn't mean your prospects of getting in are over, though. i mean, you never know. no one really knows the exact criteria of getting accepted to a top uc school. sometimes, their admissions process seems kinda random. but grades are pretty important, nevertheless. i go to ucla and their admissions is pretty strict. outta my graduating class of over 500+ ppl, only TWO kids got into ucla (but keep in mind, i go to a hick school -- so ppl here are pretty unintelligent). but yeah. i dunno. i think you shouldn't give up on applying to the uc schools, but try to avoid getting anything under a B. and even a B is sorta iffy.
