i currently own:

NETGEAR WGT624 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router - Wireless router - EN, Fast EN, 802.11b, 802.11g

lol i have no idea what that means..but i just copied it from my Dell Orders list and pasted it here...

but my mom has been constantly expressing her worries about wireless routers after listening to radio, tv shows, reading newspapers that talk about wireless routers being bad for your health and stuff...
the thing is that i place my router in my bedroom (where i spend most of my day at (except when im in school or when im outside))

did any of you soompiers hear of this problem? is it really bad for your health and if so why and what should be done to lessen the danger/problems?

Thanks!

Every song ends but that's no reason not to enjoy the music

i have that! health problems? i've never heard of that...
well my router is like to floors below where i usually am so i got no worries. but i seriously don't think there are ne dangers or problems.
my mom is the same way. she listens to this vietnamese radio station. she thinks everything is bad for our health. god, we should all just live in an isolated box.

Well if its true, then im as good as dead.

My Pocket PC has bluetooth and wifi. Most of the computers I have have wifi. Im often a bit concerned because I sometimes leave my pocket pc on, with the wifi scanning (I need to find access points to go online at school so I scan) and well I carry my pocket pc in my pocket and thats kinda close to um... areas where I most definitely don't think I need any 2.4ghz radiation going to.
The I have the router in my room... along with the rest of my network...

I dunno, but im more concerned about cell phones. Not because of them being phones, but the fact that they can work on their own... er that makes no sence... but the nearest tower is like far away... and your phone is always on sending and recieving data...

Anyways, even if you turn your router off, your neighbors will kindly surround you with them...

it can't be true... i mean its just running at a radio frequency like 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz which is the same as most portable phones... so ya.. good luck staying alive when those waves are like everywhere in urban places.

radio waves aren't strong enough to cause any DNA mutations in our body... at least i don't think so.

too much ultra violet waves though... well you know. it's why sunscreen was invented.

Can't be much worst than the toxic carbon monoxide you breathe everytime you leave your house, the DIRTIER air from within your house, or the radio and television waves going through your body every second you're alive...

Make a hat out of aluminum foil, it will keep some of the radio waves from entering at your head. laugh.gif

I'm more worried about my crotch. Does the tin foil work on any area of your body? I've already got the helmet.

Nah im sure there has to be some negative to it... I mean have you ever seen the commercial wireless routers? They have a radiation warning sticker on those antennas O_O
=[ I soo want one of those routers...

I think if we have enough distance from those routers we should be safe though. I mean 1' away, I doubt that can even be remotely good for your health. (routers output more power than network cards... network cards output like 11mW routers I dunno but its more)

=\ if we end up with too much radiation there I wonder if that would reduce fertility or just screw them all up overall O_o

Hmm so lets see...
power radiation isn't good... (you should see the wiring I have)
cell phones have never been known to be safe esp in the field of electromagnetic radiation...
Small screens was found by the wall street journal to promote irreversable eye damage.
MP3 players are making us go deaf.
Non-Egronomic setups esp with keyboard and mice promote carpal tunnel syndrome and other ailments such as repetative strain injuries.
Backpacks will probably cause spinal damage...

Eh lets just be happy with our health condition for now... I have a feeling I won't like it when I get old.

backpacks actually do cause spinal damage, especially if you carry it on one shoulder only.
its one of the reasons i have scoliosis.

Eh...
I had the router and modem in my room for like two years--perfectly fine.
Then it was moved to my mom's room so she can yank out our internet.
My laptop is wi-fi and I leave it on all night to download dramas a lot.
Nothing much has happened to me.

let me serenade your soul.
