Hey there. It's my first time posting in this section and hoping that I'll get some help/comments from you lovely Soompiers<3

>> I'm a freshman and want to major in graphic design. Look, I know. Some of you guys are probably thinking that I won't major in that as I grow older, etc. But I have a really deep passion for graphic design&did a lot of research on it. The only thing that's stumping me is, what type of colleges are out there for me for graphic design? I already know there's the Art Institute & Art Center oh and btw, I do not want to go out of state T___T; Although New York is the best place (or so I've heard) I still don't want to go out of state `cuz I'm stubborn like that phew.gif Heh.

Are there any others who plan to major in graphic designing?

EDIT

Btw, I live in California!

i would suck it up and apply to the east coast schools since they're good.. (RISD, pratt, etc)

East coast schools are pretty much the way to go (in my opinion).

I got accepted into Pratt, FIT, SVA, Parsons, all in New York (but not for graphic design) - plus there 's alot more art/design schools over here that offer your major + job opportunities.

Yeah... I would say suck it up and go out of state. If you want to be successful and the best schools are out of state, then I would just say take it!

Actually, not necessarily. The Art Center of Pasadena is very good about helping their students launch immediately into a job after graduation, especially for graphic design. I know some people who went to the Art Center and are now working for Pixar and worked on Finding Nemo. Oh, but the art center usually only accepts older students, like in their 20s. I don't remember what the reason my art teacher gave me was, but yeah, I think it has something to do with being of working age immediately after graduation.

RISD and Pratt and other schools like that focus more on rigourously training their students and expecting them to be painting masters or whatever.

So if you want to stay in California, I think the best school would be the Art Center. There really aren't many choices in CA.

Oh, I just remembered. There was this college called FIDM or something. It has a bunch of branches throughout CA, I think there's one in San Francisco... and another one in LA, and another one in Santa Barbara? I don't remember. But anyways, I don't know if it's really that prestigious. This guy from FIDM came to my school and tried to get us to go to that school... and I guess the advertisement for it was pretty good. You might want to check that out. :X I'm not sure if it was more for fasion/interior design, but I think there was a program for graphic design, too.
