obviously the higher the megapixel the higher the quality of the pictures, but i'm wondering which is the most worth buying since they also get more expensive..

is there a noticeable difference between the 5, 6, and 7 megapixel cameras in picture quality?

probably a big jump from the 5 and 7, but is there a difference between the 6 and 7?

The more megapixels a camera has, the higher its maximum resolution — and the better its picture-quality potential.

if you only take everyday pictures, for family and friends. or places and visits.. then even 4.0 is good enough. unless you want to make near poster prints of your friends/family.. lol

Good rule of thumb is stop at 5. You don't need more megapixels unless you plan on printing out poster-sized pictures.

As I must quote myself from an earlier topic:
"Megapixels are a marketing gimmick."

I can take better, clearer pictures with my 6.1 than most people do with a 7-8mp.

so i guess a 5 or 6 would be ideal.. its hard to tell which have the best quality pictures.. i guess you have to actually see the cameras yourself in the stores to see what kind of pictures they take or is there a way to tell by looking at their description?

i kinda want to buy one online because of the more variety of prices and chances of finding a good deal but i also don't want to skimp out on quality because i plan on using this camera for as long as i can sleep.gif

Generally you're safe with most things from Canon or Nikon. Canon more so on the point and shoot style cameras.

also isnt the lens a factor on how well the picture comes out and also theres how you take each picture with the sun light ,etc. my cell phone with 2 mp takes fine pictures to me and so does my 3.2 sharp.

Unless you want humungo pics, the MP factor doesn't really matter.
As long as it has at least 3 MP it's fine.

let me serenade your soul.

I'm pretty sure msot people on here don't even make prints, they only post pictures online.

When the imaging sensor on two cameras are of the same size but different pixel count, the camera with a higher pixel count will tend to produce images with more noise than the camera that has fewer pixels in its sensor.

You'll notice it in dcresource's review of Canon's A510/A520 review posted here: http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/po...10_a520-review/

But also if you look at 7MP sony's they often produce really grainy images either like a 3.2MP or some camera on an ISO 1600 setting.

Yeah, Sony's images ARE really grainy.

Like my cousin has this freakishly expensive sony from Korea that's as thin as an ipod and has like 7.1 MP. The pictures aren't that great.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!

^There's a thread for people showing off the cameras they have.

Camera Thread

I personally have the Canon Powershot SD450, and I love it.
