The more episodes you pack in a CD, the lower the quality (video and/or sound). You can cut out the openings and endings but it would only squeeze in one or two episodes. If that's what you want, you can just convert them to a lower quality. Or you can try DVDs.
There's also this nice program that you can use to efficiently pack in the stuff so you use up all the space and don't lose a couple of MBs here and there.
Overburning is possible but usually not recommended since it's not a sure thing and you really don't get all that much more space.

Even when I lowered the quality of my videos, I could usually only fit about 4 episodes on each disc (each 1 hour long).
The reason official DVD's have that many episodes on them is because the makers are using extremely high tech/expensive equipment to produce it.

Nah, its possible those companies use DVD-9 disks with about 9gigs of capacity compared to the 4.3 gigs we get with standard DVDs. That way you can get 8 episodes onto a disk.

^ Whenever I try to use the DVD-9 choice for Nero, it doesn't work. In fact, the transcoding won't even start.
