Hi UC BERKELEY ATTENDEES I WAS WONDERING IF YOU CAN ANSWER SOME OF MY QUESTIONS OF WHY UC BERKELEY WOULD BE A GOOD SCHOOL TO ATTEND? BECAUSE I'M PLANNING OF TRANSFERRING THERE WITHIN a YEAR AND A HALF. DO YOU KNOW IF THERE'S a PHARMACY PROGRAM THERE OR A NURSING PROGRAM? IF THE PROGRAMS ARE GOOD?. HOW ARE THE PROFESSOR'S and OTHER STUDENT THERE? ARE THEY MEAN, NICE, STRICT. WHAT ABOUT THE SORORITY PROGRAM THERE? ESPECIALLY ALPHA KAPPA DELTA PHI. AND THE FEES FOR HOUSING WOULD YOU PREFER DORMING or RENTING AN APARTMENT?? I'LL BE GRATEFUL IF YOU CAN ANWER MY QUESTIONS

hello~ well I just finished my first year there and I'd have to say that it's a tough school. I mean, what would you expect, it's Berkeley... but it's not not-do-able. The professors I've had so far have all been really nice and genius people... but you can always check that at RATEMYPROFESSOR.com. Mm.. I'm not sure about the nursing program or pharmacy... but we do not have a premed program. Just a track that we need to follow but we can't declare premed as our major. Sororities.. can't help you out much there... housing's pricy like all other places but I really loved the dorm life. Depending on where you get, the dorms are awesome (Unit 1) and bigger than other colleges' dorms apparently. I hope this helped a little bit. You should definitely join Berkeley though, it's a great place =]

well we don't have a pharmacy or nursing program. I guess the closest thing we have to pharmacy is biochemistry which is in college of letters and science, and chemical biology which is in the college of chemistry. I don't know about the science professors because my major is under the graduate law school so my professors are mostly law professors. As for sororities...I guess if you want to pay money to make friends...you could =P

well the key difference is that chemical biology is more chemistry oriented and you get a bs degree from that, vs a ba degree from the college of letters and science. essentially, biochemistry is more bio oriented and a bit easier...cuz chem is HARD @_@

Trust me biochem is not easy than chemical bio. Have you ever taken a look at metabolic pathway of the body? You will freak out. It looks like a matrix. Biochem along with chemical biology need you to understand the chemical reactions, maybe moreso for the chemical bio, but biochem you need to understand the whole metabolic pathway and cell's function. Memorizing the body metabolic pathway is a nightmare, but I heard that is waht you do in Med. school. But nothing beats Quantitative Analysis. That class is the worst.

Harsh reality: If you're planning on going to Berkeley, you should be able to research this stuff for yourself. That's what you're going to have to do in Berkeley. Sorry, but it's true...

However, apartments are always cheaper than dorms. Dorms cost an arm and a leg. : (! Yet apartments might not be as cheap as where you live. Though, I'm pretty sure apartments in Berkeley are cheaper than the apartments where I live...

Also if you're at a community college, the professors at Berkeley and any other university are the same- it's like high school, middle school, and elementary school. Some teachers are meanies, and some are cool! It all depends on the prof.

I also heard (because I know a guy that wants to transfer to Berkeley for the business major- he's at UCR right now) that you have to have a beautiful GPA. Over 3.9 or something. I'm not sure about this fact though. So better hit the books just in case!

Good luck deliciousdork!!!

i don't go to Cal, but i'm there for some summer business (in fact, i'm sitting in Moffitt computer lab right now). dorming is expensive... unless you got money to spend, i would suggest renting outside. it would be good if you can rent a 3-4 bedroom house and split the rent money. cuz a 1 bedroom apt here costs like $900 a month. the cheapest alternative is co-op housing. but the houses are old/dirty, and they make you do workshifts (house chores) which can be frustrating.
