Hey everybody!
Looking at the wallpaper topic on this forum, I thought..."I wonder how other people do that?" So I decided to make a thread so everyone can share what programs and widgets you use on your desktop to "soup" it up...

I just go to deviantart and browse under Skins & Themes -> Windows utilities -> Visual Styles. it doesn't need any extra programs that slow your comp down (except maybe sometimes a one-time use theme patcher or something), and they look cool, too. smile.gif

i use a hacked version of uxtheme.dll
basically you just replace it with the original one, and you can apply any visual styles that you download from deviantart

hm i have a question abt that.. how do you actually use it? i downloaded one of the themes and this is all the info they gave me on installation:

Extract All Content of Rar file.

Put the "Blue Crystal" Folder in to your "C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes" File

Put the Styler TB skin "Vista Styler" in C:\Program Files\Styler\TB\skins\Styler's

And there you have it "Blue Crystal 1.0"

which i did, but nothing's changing? =T

I use Style XP and Tweak UI.

I think I'll try some of the other stuff you guys just mentioned.

then you must eithe ruse a patched/hacked UXTHEme.dll or StyleXP
also the Styler TB.. I hope you know waht it is. But it's just a program to replace buttons in windows explorer. It just became freeware recently
google it smile.gif

I use StyleXP and i go to neowin.net forums with the customizing windows xp section. I love the wallpapers and visual styles that are created and shown off there.

basically, that's my only place to get visualstyles/wallpapers/icons
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showforum=122

i did use widgets but i felt they were just cluttering up my desktop. I mean if i had a dual or triple monitor, i'd be fine, but tongue.gif

edit:
this nice tutorial/faq helps explain how to use Visual styles, aka .msstyles

This would work even better if people in the Desktop/Wallpaper page HAD to post the wallpaper linkie and the style they used, then it would make more sense like other forums with desktop/wallpaper threads

I used to use an Apple OS skin but nowadays I use a Vista skin. It's actually pretty slick.
