I'm not a Canadian, but I kno McGill University is a great school, like an Ivy League in Canada. Too bad you'll have to pay international student rates.

i'm going there next year. it's a major research school - it was where rutherford and all those people made their discoveries.

it's one of the only english speaking universities in quebec.
a lot of native montrealers don't like mcgill students cuz they're not french =/
but it's considered ivy league in canada and it's supposed to be very competative.
it's also the top canadian party school smile.gif

I want to rip off your logic and make passionate sense to you.

the campus is really beautiful......
it's where i want to go to university~ but i live in florida, and it's in montreal... hmpf
it's considered the "harvard of the north" .. or they said that harvard is the "McGill of the South"
but yeah, it's really good and competitive.. and you can live in your little english world, but also go outside and speak french~ all the signs are in eng&french.. ^^

it depends on which program but i'll say the general admission is higher than other schools in Montreal

Are the admissions difficult in Montreal?

Sorry for the newbie questions, I am very unfamiliar with the Canadian college system.
I read on McGill's website that admission is competitive but they do not factor ECs into admissions, instead they consider them as a basis for scholarships. Then what are admissions based on? Soley GPA and SAT scores? I mean, do they even have SATs in Canada? Wait no they don't right??

Very confused as you can see.

lol for US students and international students in general, canadian universities take your SATs and your overall GPA. you can check this part of their website: http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/usminimumscores/

however, montreal is in quebec and the quebec school system is very different from the rest of canada. for instance, the majority of quebec students are in CEGEP and they get priority in admissions, scholarships etc. they also pay less tuition... significantly less and are given advance placement in some courses. almost 50% of mcgill's student population are french speaking quebec natives.

since mcgill is one of the only english speaking universities in quebec, they require you to take an english proficiency test if your first language is not english. basically, US students will be treated as international students (obviously) but mcgill tends to accept more international students than canadian students because it is the most diverse school in the country and it wants to keep it that way.

so, technically US admission shouldn't be that hard, though mcgill is very competative overall smile.gif

^Yeah, McGill isn't too hard to get in...I know a couple friends going there in September of this year. The major thing you'll need to get used to is basically living in a French-Canadian environment.

McGill is know for their medicine and science/research in general...it's definitely one of the top schools in Canada, but maybe not as well-rounded like U of T.

^Comparing to the States, i think the fees aren't so bad since it's 15K CND for international students
