asian americans have become more noticeable on the Disney Channel, with Brenda Song on THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK&CODY and her new movie, and the cartoon show AMERICAN DRAGON: JAKE LONG. what does everyone think of their portrayl of asian americans, or how do you think it should be portrayed if you would like to change it? or what else would you like to see them do?

Yeah, I guess. But it's still way too stereotypical. Way to make the only Asian-based cartoon on disney about dragons and martial arts. ;

And don't get me started with how big of an idiot Brenda's character is on the suite life >_<.

But with that said, I'm kinda looking forward to her new movie. haha

I like how Brenda Song plays an atypical character. She doesn't play a nerd or stingy bastard. And she's pretty hot, no joke.

I don't watch Jake Long. And I'm not looking forward to Brenda's new movie only because nothing will beat High School Musical.

Brenda Song has one normal non racial sterotyped role, but it isnt evena really good one since shes sorta a ditz. but before, she played the nerd and comp. whiz and all that. and now she's a matrial arts princess thing. i think that the Disney Channel caters to the stereotype that the asians are invading with our mystic kung fu. let's face it, all of america is like OOOHHHH YOU'RE ASIAN. HIYAH! CAN YOU DO KUNG FU? or OOOHH CAN YOU FIX MY COMPUTER? it's slowly changing in the more mature adult roles and television, but i think its gonna be a little bit more before we see changes in the roles for children/teen typed shows.

^ true, i like how they didn't make brenda's character a supergeek. and i haven't seen the show enough to know, but i hope they didn't go into her having traditional parents. i see that everywhere... gilmore girls, lost... and it's so unrealistic and dramatized. it sucks.

anyway, at least they have regular asian characters now. i remember when i was younger, disney had a show featuring a girl named irene ng, but it lasted like two seconds and i never saw her after that.

Americans still see asians as martial artists through Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, etc. For example, Daniel Wu, he's an american citizen but the only american movie offers he ever got were fighting roles.

I think they need to stop with the kung fu display and do something like freakin Lizzie McGuire.

Yeah I agree that Brenda should stop acting the role of a ditz even though she's good at it. I want her to take on a role that's different.
