whats ur thought? u might say ronaldinho or eto or sheva. but they are surrounded by world class players. gerrard in the other hand does everything for liverpool. scores some of the most amazing goals, captain and resued liverpool when they have given up. champions league and fa cup final. im not suprise if he is the one thats going to win the world cup for england, and beckham being the national captain is a joke.

The argument can always be made. He is definitely in the top 3 though. Great great player. Is not as flashy as Ronaldinho, but gets the job done. Definitely a better leader/captain.

I agree he is a great player, he's probably one of the best English players in the team now.
I'm not sure if I would say he is the best player in the world. But if I was to pick 11 players for a dream 11 he would definately be in it

your joking right? There's a reason why Gerrard was named MVP, and recieved awards from Fifa. Gerrard is a world class player. and lifted Liverpool from a 3-0 against AC MILAN, a world class club in the champions league, it was Gerrard's goal and motivation that helped Liverpool win the CL. Gerrard is one versatile player and has a lot of motivation. I would have to say Ronaldinho and Gerrard are on the same page, they both help there teams tremendously. Gerrard is my favorite player because watching him is so exciting and his passes/shots/vision is amazing, he'll help England win the WC 2006.

have you seen the hungary and jamaica game? beckham was perfect, neville and the others hailed becks for his wonderful form.

WOW, I never would have thought to see this thread on Soompi. If you tell most people about the "best player in the world", they say "Ronaldo". If you say "Gerrard" they look at you like " WTF are you mad?" I'm supposed to hate him, he's a Liverpudlian. But I've found that this man can shoot a ball from anywhere, really; he can inspire the most amazing comebacks (CL Semifinal 05', CL Final 05', FA Final 06') and is a true captain. He's not as firey as Roy Keane but they share alot of common characteristics, and in my opinion Keane is the greatest Skipper the world has ever seen.

I don't exactly call him the world's greatest player but he's one of the best English player I've seen.Liverpool should really be grateful for having a such a good captain.One with skills and mentality.Not to mention,he motivates his teammates alot which a very important aspect of a leader.
