Do You Think David Beckham Is A Great Soccer Player Or Just Someone With Good Looks Only?

When David Beckham scored a goal from the 50 yard line, that’s when his name grew into the media. His name was going out of control in England and got made his first appearance for the England team during a World Cup qualifying match and did well, and was also voted Young Player of the Year.
At the age of 23, David Beckham realized his fame and sort of went out of control in his life. Like any 23 year old, you went to clubs, parties, and drank beer all night. During a 1998 World Cup game, the coach of England accused him of not concentrating well during games and was not able to play the first two matches. Though on the third match, David Beckham scored from a long-range free kick in a 2-0 victory.
“dkstariob” mentioned that David Beckham was hated by many English fans. The reason why its this way, is because of David Beckham’s fame. During a match against Portugal in Euro 2000, a group of England Thugs shouted out to Beckham, “we hope your kid dies of cancer". Now, to all of you, if someone said that to you from own damn country, wouldn’t you pissed and very upset? I would, and I would do the same damn thing to the thugs, show a one-finger gesture. This picture of David beck ham throwing a one-fingered gesture was the reason why some of the conservative English-natives were pissed, mostly the Christians.
“dkstariob” also mentions this, “First off, he shouldn't be captain.”. Now, I’m not sure if he is talking about now or if he thought Beckham shouldn’t of been captain ever.
In the year 2000, Beckham was team captain, and helped England to qualify for the 2002 World Cup, with an excellent performance over Germany with a 5-1 victory. Now, another heroic captain moment was in 2001, England needed a draw to qualify against Greece and was losing 2-1. The rest of the England team was tired and played very poorly, but David Beckham somehow lifted the spirits from the tired players and raised their stamina to play fully. Towards the end of the game, David Beckham scored with a curling free-kick and ensured England to qualify. After the game, David Beckham was voted Personality of the Year.
This is getting long, I hope at least one person reads this all. When it comes to charity, Mr. Beckham started it right when he earned some extra cash playing for Manchester United. He would donate his money from playing soccer to UNICEF, and till this day he does the same thing. He has also done stuff like throw a party at his house to raise charities for three companies.
He has gone through the good times and the bad times, but the reason why I believe he deserves the captain spot for 2006 Is because this will be his last appearance at a world cup. Now yes, he has made mistakes by not doing his job in the penalty box or even missing some free kicks, but if you even knew a little bit about his life and what he had to go through with all the paparazzi and the England thugs trying to steal his kid, you would give him a little credit. None of us will ever be close to what David Beckham is today, and as a soccer club player like I am, he is one of the 5 players I look up to. “dkstariob” also said, “I also liked how he said that England could win without Rooney.”. Well the reason he said that was to try to raise the spirit of England, it is his job to give them hope.
Now David Beckham is not playing his best games, even throwing up on the field today because of the high humidity in the stadium. He is 31 years old now, still a young age but I believe after a year or so playing for Real Madrid he will probably retire and go on with his life as a father and a wife. As the fame he has gotten in the past, and his excellent fashion, he is having a hard time concentraing on soccer itself and not getting the proper training he would get in the past.
Anyways, I surely can’t kick with my left foot either in free-kicks, as growing up I always used my right foot. Its really hard, you should try it yourself.

There are many players who can utilize both feet effectively. Totti, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rooney, Henry, Owen, etc.

Ronaldinho is great also, his magic on the field...but his looks are not so great.
ronaldinho has his own awkward sense of charm xP
beckham is obviously a good player , or he wouldn't be in the freaking world cup team . he's genius . he's not the best player ever , but there's not much we can complain about .
if he weren't so famous for his family life , nobody would be questioning his abilities on the field , in my opinion . the fact that he's attractive and an important figure for a lot of people in terms of fashion , as well as the fact he's married to one of the most well-known pop stars of our generation mean that people think of him as kind of undeserving of the praise he gets for his sporting abilities , and put it down to "oh , well of course he's on the team , he's famous" . he didn't just BECOME one of the most well-known athletes in the world , you know .
there's this girl i know and she's okay .
there's this guy as well , he's much the same .

I usually don't watch soccer much, but I know about the players and such. I was mostly looking foward to watch Beckham, Zidane, Henry, Messi, and Rhonaldinho play. So far Beckham is the only one living up to the hype, I still like Messi's enthusiasm.

it's quite funny people think he's overrated cuhz of his looks, fame, spotlight, etc... if he didnt have good looks, posh as his wife, his fashion sense, etc... the media probably would've portrayed him as underrated or whatever...
but i think david beckham is the hottest footballer/athlete ever.

'We've never seen England do well with [Frank] Lampard, [Steven] Gerrard and Beckham all on the park together. They do not hit it off,' insisted Whelan.
'I watched Beckham being sick on the field the other day and thinking 'why doesn't Eriksson get him off'. He was sat on the sidelines doing nothing.
'If our boss [Paul Jewell] saw that, the lad would be off in a flash, but he hasn't the guts to drop Beckham.
'He believes in him, but Becks is a luxury. He doesn't tackle and is never involved other than being a dead-ball specialist, and he is not a captain.
'Why he remains captain, and not John Terry, is beyond me.'

But then in Whelan's eyes, that means dropping David Beckham who he feels is a liability, despite his free-kick winner being enough to defeat Ecuador in the second round.
'We've never seen England do well with [Frank] Lampard, [Steven] Gerrard and Beckham all on the park together. They do not hit it off,' insisted Whelan.

Uh, we already cleared this already. Your always mentioning the same things over and over again, its getting old. Your a person that always believes the negatives, how about you try playing soccer out in the humidity buddy
He does tackle, he did a lot the last game....i don't know what your talking about there. He uses all the power hes got in the beginning, but towards the end he loses stamina. He is not a dead-ball specialist, I don't know where he is getting this stuff...it is absolutely "rubbish" ha-ha (Wanted to use a british term there). When the coach finally got the chance to get a hold of the ref, he then substituted Beckham as soon as he could.
I never was a fan of Dave Whelan anyways, the Blackburn Rovers player. He was horrible, with no accuracy on his kicks. Why doesn't he give Beckham a break, Je** Chri**
Anyways, to the point...He is better looking than us, he makes more money than us, he has a beautiful wife, his leg is famous in England, and we will never become him unless your a rising soccer superstar, his name will always be kept in England and all over the world....
Yes, there will always be pricks who write about Beckham and what he does wrong, but thats life....and every player usually has to deal with it. Beckham said, “People react to criticism in different ways, and my way is definitely to come out fighting.” Sure John Terry could be captain, but i'm sure John Terry would rather let Beckham be captain once he retires as a soccer player for team England.
