France for a change... Zidane ??

Being a soccer/football/축구/ mania, it was such a disheartning moment to see zidane get kicked with no dignity in most likely his final time on the field.
Although he is on the oppsing team, especially a rival in our own bracket, most likely he probably won't see another match in his life.
What's even sadder is the fact that when he got his 3rd yellow card and left for bench, the france fan's didnt even have time to salute as 붉은악마 12'th player just took over the whole stadium. Yes, I do want the korean team to go as far as 4강, but even opposing fans respected jordan/gretzky becuase they excel at their field.
Zidane is considered an elite amongst elite and probably the last great soccer man.
Although the blood of korean boils in me (refs were all over the place this game as well, but what a comeback for korea), I take this time to do a small salute to you ,as a fan, Mr. Zidane for playing....just great soccer.
Farewell Mr. Zidane!! .

Which probably will be the final game for france T.T. Unless the other two in the bracket makes some historical blunders in the final 1st round.
My predictions are that swiss/korea will probably make it. Although we are leading in our bracket, be wary because we are winning these game only by a point/tie and swiss is hot on our tails. God forbid if we are forced to compare stats for 2nd round entrance because we end up losing the lead.
Although in a lighter note, france already felt the golden-god-of-all trophy in 98, i wouldn't mind seeing us gawking over it at the end of this WC.

that's true...france won the WC before...

I don't see that happening either. Maybe it would have been better for him to have stayed retired before instead of coming back to relive the nightmares of 2002. Of course, France still has another game.

Statistically, probably yea. I have been watching both of brazil's game again this year, and of course there is a reason they never rust and considered an elite.
However, if statistics were true; there is no way I could even think about korea going to 16강, let alone 4강. in '02. Being a soccer fan all my life, that was probably the most stunning/mindblowing job done in '02 by us koreans.
We practically rewrote the defination of underdog....
I didn't even watch the korean games till the 2nd round (huge brazil fan), and the korean team reaffirmed my love of soccer and why fifa ranking is worth 2 cents in world cup.
Once again ,this year, I hope korea will pull off something incredible, but really; they need to step up in the first half.
I am tired of this clinch shots and last minute miracles. But it's also funny that I think korean's will ALWAYS pull something off in the 2nd half, that just goes against all statistics.
Now regular season....thats a whole different story...

i dont see anybody saying that korea is the only team to do that, and its not always a good thing that they put on such a dramatic game~ yeah, its exciting and thrilling, but I wish they could put on a more solid play throughout all of 90 minutes. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon...

But to our degree?
All 02' games were advanced with clich shots.
All 06' games so far are clinch shots. (Thats why I love soccer, you HAVE to watch till the last nanosecond).
Something else in common from '02 and '06?
- Koreans lose all kinds of rhythm and teamplays in the first half. First goal from togo, right through two defense. First goal from france, once again; right through two defense. The funny thing is, this scenerio rarely repeats itself during the second half.
- Koreans miraculously tighten up in the 2nd half. It just feels like they need pressure to do well
-If they keep playing like this, I don't think luck and the gods they are praying to will be too forgiving.

France plays strong throughout the entire game, but most in the beginning. Korea also goes strong in the beginning, but isn't that strong.
That is the problem. There is a reason that first goal is always important for morale. Go watch the first two brazil games this year and see if they make any kinds of miss-plays-passes during the first 15 minutes of the game.
As stated above, its incredible to see Korea always comeback/역전 goal, but this stuff will not be easily achieved against the elites.
The soccer that Korea has been playing can be summed up in two spectrums.
1. There are teams that tries to get the first goal for morale boost. Also first goal means it unlocks that much more options/plays that the players can excute with less risk
2. There are teams that just has to play under pressure. Whether its by trailing point or just unstoppable offense. This will be the korean team and its a very very dangerous scenerio. Some argue that koreans team played more defensive today to tire out the france due to their age. Thats why you get scored on first 9 minutes into the game. Also on a side note, its an irony that Park Ji sung scored with 9 minutes LEFT in the game.

i agree... Korea must do the best next time... if they want to win, but i'm afraid, i don't know if they have a chance to be the winners this year if they plays like this evening...
Hello, God! in few wordsthere's something in this world that's more painful than death, it's letting you go.... should i ask you to wait until i can get into your heart? i think i can buy everything in this world if i had enough money, but i can't buy time.... how can i win when he's already taken possession of your heart ?

I won't go crazy till Korea makes 2nd round to at least the final 8. I am just watching cautioiusly as they are just doing horribly in pen and paper, but they do seem miraculous.
If they make it to at least the final 8, I hereby declare that all statistics for all teams leading to WC is heresay and propaganda.
But lets get back on topic as I have been going off tangent here. This thread was created for my small appreciation to zidane for making soccer that much more greater.
Although france made some '02 blunders, its really sad to see a great man leave in the throng of Korean fan's cheers during his ejection. It dosn't help that it was probably his last time on the field as well.
Just imagine seeing michael jordan foul out on his last game of his life. That just sucks..

Fortunately, he didn't. As for Zidane, he is indeed one of soccers elite and as much as most of us have hoped that he would still be able to play what could be his last game, he just caught up in a precarious situation.
