I'm a third year English major, and i'm planning on working under a professor for research. of course they're nothing like bio or chem experiments, mostly this is analyzing certain essays, books, and publications, finding a theory, and basically..researching it, lol. I thought it would be too late for me but the research counselor on campus said it's not too late to do so. A lot of fourth yeras are starting research as well and my proposal is due on october anyway, so i have plenty of time to contact the professors during the summer and read their publications.

i was just wondering if anybody else is thinking about starting research too? or to anyone who has started it already, is it very hard to find a professor to work under? i looked at the faculty website and there's literally hundreds of professors reesarching. But i know that doesn't guarantee that it'll be easy to find a mentor.

Also, I took the GREs last Saturday, and alhtough I thought it was pretty easy, i cancelled my scores right after taking them =/ i didn't feel confident enough and i hadn't studied as much because o fmy finals and final papers and things like that. I was told i need to get at least a 660 on them to get into graduate school.

I'm planning on going to NYU for grad school (i'm applying this november/december), or teacher's college. I was wondering how hard it might be to get in? Both my overall gpa and my major requirement gpa will be above 3.0 before I'm graduating (I think my major gpa will be around 3.3 ...i think it's so low...) ..of course i will be doing research and taking the GREs again (with MORe studying). the personal statement and letter of recommendations probably won't be a problem, because my recommendaitno letters can be written by a mentor i'm working under (assuming i've found a teacher to work with).

Sorry if this post is so long...it's just that i have no idea where i stand and i don't have enough info about GREs =/
