QUESTION: to those who have graduated college --school rankings?

Hi all,
So, I'm technically going to be a sophomore in college, but due to credits, I will be a junior in the fall. Truth be told, I've been miserable at the school I went this past year.
It's a really long story, but I had a fall-out with my parents because I "rebelled" during the last two years of high school and "screwed up my life because I couldn't get into an Ivy League." I'm Korean, and my parents are anal ********, for what it's worth.
Anyway, I applied to transfer to another college and got in (my GPA sucked this year because of problems with parents, self, and etc). I did NOT get into a high ranking school that my parents wanted me to transfer to, but knew that I wasn't going to get in.
I found out today I got in and my parents refuse to pay for it, which is no problem since I'll just take out loans or something. I'm determined to get out of this crudhole. But they ruined my joy at having gotten an opportunity to get out, since my father did some "research" and according to the US NEWS World Report junk, this school is ranked lower than the school I am currently going to -- by 30 or so schools.
My dad says that it's "not even a school" and not worth transferring to. I disagreed since the reason why I didn't do well here was due to depression of being around them and staying in-state, but I'm a little worried about the school rankings.
I want to either go to law or med school (probably law) and I know that GPA is really important. I effed up the last two years of high school and the first year of college -- I don't to shoot myself in the foot by "rebelling" and flunking out of college (you have to KNOW my parents to know where I'm coming from).
So, I guess my question is: how important is school ranking? Does it matter? And if so, how much does it matter?
Thanks.
