I'll be going to a community college for my generals. Since they don't have any housing on campus, I was planning on renting an apartment near by. Well here's my question... I was wondering if there's any grants or if Financial Aid will help me out?.. My friend told me that Financial Aid will help you pay if you qualified (thats what she heard), but I'm not sure if anything like that exists... So I hope you guys can clear that up for me...

***EDIT
Thanks!!! biggrin.gif

To my knowledge, financial aid(grants) will only cover school housing(dormitories). The amount you recieve depends on your income or your parent's income depending on if you are an independent. You can take out loans from the bank or elsewhere if you need money to pay the bills but take into account how high the interest rates are.

Yeah it does. From my experience it helps somewhat but you still have to manage your money wisely. If you do get qualified for financial aid it only depends on waht your parents income is. Financial aid money can vary depending on the income, and the money will be disbursed to you after they see how much they can give you. Sometimes, financial aid doesn't get disbursed, and this is because it has been used to pay for your tuition, etc. The disbursed payment is sort of like what is left over from what they give you total. You can use this to pay for housing and other such things as well, such as food, books, etc.

By the way, not everyone can get financial aid obviously. I know an acquaintance whose mom works and her income is only $44,000 a year and she still didn't get qualified for financial aid..which majorly sucks.

like i said, it can all depend on your parents and how much they make. i hate this bureaucratic sh*t as well but who does..it makes the world go 'round

^ Correct.
It will cover your expense of living, whether you live on compus or not.
The amount you will get for the living expense varies, of course, but I don't know which option (on campus or off campus) would favor you better.

you'd have to be a person on the streets with empty pockets in order to get enough finaid disbursement in your bank account in order to pay montly rent for an apartment. But I guess, it depends on where you live since rents expensive if you're a city dweller.

irvine is really expensive so it's very difficult. i forgot to mention that my parents and i negotiated when it came to housing; even if i do get disbursed payments from financial aid, i still won't be able to pay it off every single month. so i pay the housing fee every other month out of my own account, while my parents support me on the months that i don't pay. =]
