I'll be going to UCLA this Fall, and I applied for oncampus housing .
I got the Glenrock west apartments ( i think these apts are considered 'off campus' although they are owned by the unviersity). I am a little disappointed- I was kind of hoping that I'd get to live in the dorms because I wanted to meet people, make friends etc. etc.

So, I have some questions:

Does anyone live in the Glenrock west apartment? Whats it like? I'm trying to decide on whether I want to request a change in housing- to live in the plazas, suites, or halls... Do you think its worth it? I think its much more expensive then living in the apartments and that kinda sucks. But I think it'll be extremely convienent.

Does anyone have any experiences living in either the oncampus or off campus housing? Which buildings should I request? I get a to list my choice of 3, but i might not get any of them.

My housing contract also says, "one bedroom 3 occupants". Isn't our room going to be REALLY CRAMPED? or does this mean i will have my OWN room but two other roomates who will have thier own rooms? unsure.gif

Anyway, HELP! biggrin.gif

I lived in Hedrick Summit and I will be living there again next year. My room was pretty big, I only shared it with one person, but I heard the 3 person suites get kind of cramped. I think all the plazas are really nice, Summit, Terrace and what not. The dining hall food gets kind of repetitive, but you'll be in the apartments so you'll get to cook your own food. The dorms are very convenenient, but they are also expensive. It all depends on your preference. I was able to meet a lot of people in the dorms which I probably wouldn't have been able to do if I lived in the apartments, but I'm sure if you make the effort you'll still be able to meet people. Whichever you choose though, the walk to and from class is going to suck, especially since I live in Hedrick Summit. Aside from the giant hill, I have to go up the additional hill to my building. Good luck with whatever you choose. smile.gif

Hey there! I'm also a Fall 06 transfer. I got Sunset Village triple, when I wanted a suite double dry.gif Not many transfers got what they wanted. Go here, and explore around in the forums for Tranfer Students and UCLA. I'm kept updated and got a lot of info from there. From what I gathered, they're currently not granting housing changes for anyone due to a record number of admitted freshmen. I hated my housing assignment at first, but I've forced myself to embrace it, hahaha. Just stick w/ what you have; I'm sure you'll get something out of it. Everything happens for a reason rolleyes.gif If you want to find out more about Glenrock, do a search at the above site or post a msg there.

I'm pretty sure your "1 bedroom 3 occupants" housing contract is exactly what it says - just 1 bedroom shared by 3 ppl. If it were only 1 bedroom for yourself and another for the other 2, it would be "2 bedrooms 3 occupants", and the housing contract would also specify that yours is a single. I think you'll have enough space to breathe in your apt. biggrin.gif The most disgustingly cramped rooms are the res halls.

Hey you know what, at least there will be more transfers + upper division students at Glenrock. I'm just hoping for non-freshman roomates!

I'm a Sociology major w/ a 3.7. Hey, I read your other thread. Don't worry, having a 4.0 is not a necessity for acceptance. Have your IGETC done, some extracurricular acts./work, and maintain at least 3.5. Also, if you're part of a transfer agreement b/w your college + UCLA, you're pretty much a shoo-in. This yr, I've even heard of cases where ppl got accepted w/ a GPA below 3.0

I'm a Japanese major and I got accepted with a 3.3 + one F. smile.gif So it's all good if you're worried about getting accepted or not.

yeah............ don't hijack threads please. blush.gif

um, anyway. thanks for the link piiglet19. its totally helpful. how do you like Sunset village? I read at the other forum that others didn't like it and were actually trying to trade! you are right, maybe everything does happen for a reason. i wanted to live in a more social envi. but, you know... i'm not really an outgoing person so maybe the apartment life would be better for me. I'll just join a bunch of clubs or something. But, i thought that transfer students only live with tranfer students and freshmen have thier own freshmen dorm?

The dorms are really expensive though... about 1k a month depending on which food plan you get. The apartments are not nearly as much.

Anyone know if I can get a meal plan even while living in the apartment? i'm not much of a cook.

Hahaha, yeah...I don't know why they wanted out of Sunset Village so badly...they're willing to pay up to $600 blink.gif Well, supposedly Sunset is quiet and more apartment-like. I like that a lot since I actually want to study in my room, and getting a private bathroom is a plus! Sunset is also closer to North campus, which is where the social science classes are located...so yay, less hiking. Rent is definitely crazy.gif

And you CAN buy meal plans. For me when I accepted my housing offer, I paid for my meal plan then. If you can't find out how, send them an email or ask them during orientation smile.gif
