I'm kind of confused though. it's just your third day of practice and you're already going through tryouts? o__o I had my flag for at least a month before I had to try out for the first time.

our colorguard has a huge amount of people (rounding up to 80 people a yr) we're also known to be on top in southern cali for field season (placed 1st @ scsboa with the highest score) and for winterguard season, our team is split into 3 guards (intermediate A, scholastic A & scholastic world) our world guard last yr received third in the NATION @ wgi which is CRAZYYYY. it's the highest we've ever gotten and yeah... our A guard got 1st @ wgasc. loll yeah i guess i'm bragging but colorguard is the program that shaped who i am today and it's been a big part of my life.
for the tryouts, SMILE and just look confident. even if you screw up... you'll still look good, you know? thats what my advisor always told us before tryouts.
also, meet up with some frnds or returning members to help you extra after workshops or whtevr. get as much as help you can get.
hmm. my suggestions to you... (when you make the team)
MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY. we rounded up in freshmen yr and we found out that we spent more than 350 hrs a yr on rehearsals. you HAVE to know that it's time consuming and especially during competitions.. you're gonna be giving up your weekends, basically. always finish your hw and don't put them away because you're "too tired." trust me.... i did that freshmen yr and i screwed up big time. -__- also, make new friends (whether they're older or younger than you) i met the nicest people and upperclassmen who basically helped me through high school with school works.... guy probs.... family probs.. everythingg. practice at home a lot if you can (i had disadvantages b/c i live in a condo and there's no space cept concrete floor)

Anyways,
yeah, takes a lot of practice and confidence.
It can get frustrating and complicated,
but all you can do is practice!

It's not my thing. But I did get better w/ the flag. Just keep on practicing. And ask the people that were in CG before for help.
