so, it's getting at the end of my mom's contract and she's leaving cingular.

and instead of me using a crappy prepaid phone, she's actually putting me on her plan.

so which is the best service? i'm thinking about verizon or t-mobile but i've heard t-mobile isn't so good. yeah, i get to choose the provider and since everyone here seems to be an avid cell phone user, i decided it would be best to ask this question here.

thanks for the response!

also, i'v heard bad reviews about RAZRs and i used to hate them but now...i want one. are they worth the money?

RAZRs are cool if you know how to mod them. mobiledia forums has a lot of info for modding.

T-mobile is really cheap, but has bad signal in a lot of places, Cingular is really good but a bit more expensive. Verizon is ~as good as Cingular, but their basic phones aren't that good.

Cingular well...they kept adding random charges to the bill and wouldn't fix them. Customer service was horrible.

My friend has T-mobile and says they're good but I'm not too sure. Verizon seems to be the best though and yeah. Their phone selection sucks but eh.

heck i'm in SC right now with Sprint. It's okay because of the family plan. Lots of good phones coming out.
Verizon, I wouldn't recommend it. Their phones aren't taht great as well as their internet. expensive for the multimedia packages (not sure now).
Their interface on their phones are ugly imo (the red of theirs is just.. bl3h)

^ what part of S.C are you in? i'm on the coast and verizon works really good over here(my friend has verizon so yeah..i've tried it out haha). i've heard many bad things about sprint. i remember back in the day they would try to offer us long distance for our home phone all the time. gaaah.

I have t-mobile and i'm on a family plan paying $69.99 a month for 1000 minutes, it's alright and we never go over the minutes. The only problem i'm having with them is my damn phone it doesn't want to work correctly anymore and all they've done is gave me the same phone and i've had the same problem with all 5 phones.

I'm not sure about verizon though i've never used them.

I'm also part of a T-Mobile family plan. I like their phone selections, which is good because I get a new one for free every year. The service is good where I am but sometimes when I visit friends who live far away from the city, I don't get service.

very top middle of SC, right under Charlotte.

We're not really obsessed with using our mobile phones. Just use it periodically, and we're happy with Sprint.

verizon has the best service. but t-mobile has better phones imo.

you should consider which service your friends have. if everyone has verizon you should get verizon because you'll be "in" and then you won't have to use much of your anytime minutes. but if all your friends have t-mobile then get t-mobile because then you'll have t-mobile to t-mobile.

but if you don't care about minutes then consider what type of phone you want. if you're one of those people that just wants any random phone then get verizon. but if you're into all the cool gsm phones then definitely get t-mobile.

of course there are those cool korean phones which only work with verizon. but i don't know if you're into that.

t-mobile seems to be the best since for some odd reason my friend with verizon couldn't get service in my house and yet, my friend with t-mobile could.

haha i think i'll go with t-mobile. and korean phones? well i'll never have enough money for them sleep.gif

I'm using SPRINT and i love it. Service is great. I've only had VERY FEW dropped calls in the past 2 years that i've had it.

Sprint is great because you get service nearly ANYWHERE, and roaming to other networks is complete FREE w/the fair & flexible plan.

T-Mobile is the CHEAPEST and may have cool phones, but they have the poorest service.

Verizon is getting popular...but i've never really heard of it. Cingular....a lot of my friends like CIngular. Whatever plans work for you. Shop around.

I'm currently using t-mobile and it works pretty well for me. I never gone over the minutes and everyone I know uses tmobile so the minutues are never a problem for me. I guess it varies for everyone and wherever you live. Cingular has some horrible services in my area.

I'm using cingular, on the family plan. For three lines, we pay about $120 a month. 2 of the phones have 200 text messages, and we all pay insurance on our phones. We share 500 minutes (I know, it's very little) but when we went into the plan, my sister already had like 10,000 rollover minutes that we got to keep. We still have almost all of those rollover minutes. (most calls we make are mobile to mobile, everyone I know has cingular).

I really like Cingular. Customer service sucks but other than that, I've never had a dropped call, always have all my bars, and can get reception wherever i go (I travel alot).

Check out this link: http://compass.t-mobile.com

Its a t-mobile site that will allow you to check their service coverage in certain areas. Basically, you enter the area information (address, city, zip, etc) and they will show you a map and there will be indication whether their coverage in that area is good or not. Of coz, it is not 100% foolproof, but its a great 1st step to check.

I have used all the providers (sprint, tmobile, cingular, at&t (both the gsm n cdma) and verizon). Each providers have their pros and cons. I am with cingular now and the only thing I like about them is the rollover feature. Can be useful if you use few minutes and a lot of minutes perodically. All their coverage are pretty decent in my area. Not sure about yours. Try to check with a store that sells one or more providers so you can at least get an unbiased opinion (although you shouldn't believe it 100% as they would probably recommend the provider that gives them the most commission). But if you know the person very well, I am sure they would probably tell you the truth (not worth losing the customer and potential referrals).
