Well, just pick a topic and decide what you're going to write about. So if it asks for a significant experience in your life, decide what experience you're going to write about. What topics are you looking at? Also, it's still very, very early, so you really don't need to worry much at this point. smile.gif

The essays really favor the great storytellers.

This is just an idea: create a simple list of events in your life that you think best illustrates you as a person or one of your characteristics. Narrow down the events to ones you think will interest other people (and ones you're comfortable with sharing of course).

The essay is your chance to let the colleges know a glimpse of you. Don't stress out, just make sure that YOU shine through the essay. biggrin.gif

also it is really helpful to get a lot of people to read your essay and to critique it. let them destroy your first draft!!!
haha at first i was a little nervous to have people look over my stuff but its really helpful so that you know that the story that you are telling is the story that they are hearing and that your message is getting across~

good luck~

Yeah I wanted to start my essays earlier too so I don't die senior year.

I think you should go to the commons application website and look at their essays (I think they had four topics to choose from).

If you can't find it for some reason you can pm me for them x]

usually they should be anywher from 400 words to 800 words.. i dont think i've seen any essays that require more than a page or so.

you should pick a topic or a story to tell that will reveal alot about your personality but not in a showoffish way. ithere are a couple of good books out there, but i forget what they are. if i remember, i'll come back with the title once i find it (my teacher practically photocopied the entire book for us)

One to two pages, generally. Sometimes there will be a limit, usually 500 or 1000 words. Again, if it's under two pages, it should be fine for most places. You should check to see what the applications say.

What is your topic?
