One of my cousins is 21 and she actually dropped out of high school and got her GED. She told her mom that she took a test and Brown College (?) e-mailed her that she got a full scholarship for 2 years. She also said she got accepted to UMich... But she's getting admitted by taking tests? What the heck? I think she's lying. After all, she's always lying. Also, she said she's not going to either one... LOL Anyone know what the deal is? blink.gif

Well, I doubt that it happened but you never know. I could see getting into UMich but Brown? With a full two year scholarship.. Yeah, sure.

But stranger things have happened. If she got high scores on her GED and showed that she can do the college work load there is no reason why she wouldn't get in.

What kind of test was it? SAT?

she's probably lying. Probably. Not only because of her story, but her "scholarship" sounds fishy. I don't really think that's how it works. And I certainly don't think Brown University is emailing out scholarship notices. But I could be wrong.

And.. there might be some kind of special program.. I know NYU has something like that (CUNY transfer to NYU)

But I doubt it
She probably explained herself wrong

Yeah, she's certainly lying. She doesn't even know enough about the admissions process to lie properly.

She may have gotten in, but I doubt the scholarhsip. She may have gotten financial aid, a work study or something for having dropped out. Is she still living with her parents?

Totally lying. If she really is saying it's based on tests, then heck no. I think the only other way of getting in is going to a community college then transferring. One of my friends in Korean Class did that. He said he basically failed high school, but he went to a junior college and then transferred to UCLA. I think that's the only other method that I can think of. Unless you proven yourself to be a full blown genius (and not just on tests) and you get some special offer to work with the university.

there's this admissions by testing thing that some UC schools do, where if your combined score on the SAT I's and two SAT II tests is 3450 or above you're admitted into the school.
but other than that, she's most likely lying.

well unless the test is the ACT, or SAT, then i don't think so. just wait till the fall to see if she is going to brown.

Life bites.

brown university is the ivy league school, but there are brown colleges around. i know there's a business college or something like that in minnesota...so yeah.

if it is that brown college, she probably did get in. if you go to browncollege.edu there is an application and it says high school/ged completion date, so yeah, you can get in with a ged.

^Well, she also said she got into Michigan, which is certainly not true. It seems like she thought schools had their own separate entrance exams that you could take and be admitted. I think it does or used to work this way in other countries.
