The Killers Frontman Is Disgusted by Emo Bands

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has hit out at America's hunger for pop punk bands, insisting he wants to beat them all to death. The singer has also reignited his feud with Fall Out Boy, even though he has never met the rockers. Flowers warns British music fans to be wary of the 'Emo' movement, insisting it will sweep the nation and change the teenage generation forever.

He says, "You don't realise what you could be getting yourselves into, with Fall Out Boy, and what kind of impact it could have in a way that you don't really want. Culturally, if it gets as big as it is in America, it could change an entire generation of people growing up here. Emo, pop-punk, whatever you want to call it, is dangerous.

"We don't wanna dislike anyone, and we've still never met Fall Out Boy, but there's a creature inside me that wants to beat all those bands to death. They just all go into the happy emo funnel and everyone loves 'em without thinking."

Blah. +_+ i don't even think people even care about the Killers anymore since like last summer when they were all the rage. Flowers just seems to be a little pissy that they're not as popular anymore and that someone from fall out boy made comments about him? haha but i agree that Fall out boy sucks and the emo bands are ehhh. The thing about emo bands being an epidemic is sorta out there though but then again maybe not. shrugs

The Killers > Billy Talent > !Panic > Fall Out.

The whole Spears / Aguilerra / BSB / Nsync movement was more refreshing than what's been going in with pop culture as of late.

I hate emo bands, too. *shrugs*

Bands like Hawthorne Heights and Fall Out Boy make me want to slap my friends for listening to such garbage.

i don't get what people have against emo bands though...i mean i'm not even quite sure what EMO really means. I'm into all kinds of music except crappy commercial hip hop (50 cent) but i just don't get HOW IS IT DANGEROUS?? it's just a way of expressing your feelings. that lead singer needs to chill

how do you consider someone to be emo? i always hear people say "oh he's emo" and i always thought that meant he's depressed...is it?

an urbandictionary definition for you, lovefool223

QUOTE
Punk music on estrogen. Often acoustic guitar with soft, high male vocals that dwell exessively on the singer's feelings, especially melancholy remembrances of past relationships/mistakes in life. A form of music that diverged from punk in the '80s, the name "emo" is derived from the emotive style of the lyrics and music. This genre has lately been marketed heavily by the music industry to teenagers with bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday, and has seen much commercial and mainstream success. The music has also spawned a subculture which conforms to certain conventions in dress such as tight sweatshirts, tight band T-shirts and horn-rim glasses. Adherents profess to exessively melancholy temperments. Males that adhere to the emo subculture are sometimes confused with metrosexuals; indeed the line between the two is somwhat blurred, though both groups claim to be intouch with their emotional side. The ephemeral and hackneyed nature of emo songwriting suggests that its audience will be restricted largely to teenagers. the genre suffers from a lack of credibility outside the aforementioned demographic group, much like current Nu Metal bands.

What is his problem? He's always saying crap about other people and other bands. It just gets so tiring sometimes. He should just be quiet and focus on his own music.

STFU MR. FLOWERS!

Don't turn into whiny emo b.itch because your labelmates are selling more albums and stuff than you!

seriously, this isn't the first time he's opened his mouth up.

i friggin' hate emo bands too

but i don't entirely agree with brandon flowers. like, i wouldn't call the emo 'epidemic' as "dangerous" like he did. i'd call it lame, pathetic, etc

but if whatever he does helps to stop the spreading of this whole emo thing (which i doubt but anyway) then good

edit: LOL @ the number one definition for 'emo' on urbandictionary

QUOTE
Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

and i totally agree.

I couldn't help but go "ha" after I finished reading it.

Sometimes I think he takes things too seriously (emo, dangerous?).

thanks for the definition! omg the definiton is so detailed..lol..i seriously thought emo was just an everyday slang but i didn't know there was so much depth to it. the only songs i know from the killers are mr brightside and somebody told me....i didn't know the lead singer talks negative things about other bands too...WHO ELSE DOESN'T HE LIKE? i see nothing wrong with bands writing about their past relationships and mistakes...maby some of them are doing it just to make money but alot of bands do it because thats who they are. just leave those emo bands alone! it's sad enough people make fun of them ><

is simple plan and good charlotte considered emo? is punk the same thing as emo >< sorry but i suck at these things i'm very not updated

*rolls eyes* Brandon is the type who likes to pick on others to seem like he's a big man. First it was The Bravery, and then Fall Out Boy, and now it's "emo" in general. Sure kid. Shut up cuz you're rolling in millions, so....just shut up. Anyway, Fall Out Boy and The Killers both suck, so....Brandon should just accept that his crappiness is equally as crap as all those emo bands out there.
I'm just being mean now. I'll leave.

to be honest, i don’t know much about punk except that it originated from the 70’s and in my opinion (and many others), is dead now. i couldn’t name many punk rock bands except maybe the ramones? well whatever, even though i never really listen to punk rock i know that it definitely isn’t emo. when people say that emo ‘diverged’ from punk, i think it's just a nice way of putting it and what it really means is that the emo genre butchered punk and is a s.hitty version of punk as a result of people’s attempt to create something new (which happens to suck ass) and be different, etc. by deviating from it. WELL. emo shouldn’t even be associated with punk since if there is any similarity with it, it is ZILLIONTH-rate and just poor in comparison

yeah, i detest emo music but the reason i'm totally defending punk rock is because of some people's association of emo with punk (like, punk rock, that's it) and omg, possibly believing that punk is emo

and yes, i pathetically feel offended by anyone who thinks that. imagine the punk rock fans out there? hahaha. or maybe it's just me

no offense to any emo fans out there

about a year ago, Billy Idol said that he's tired of seeing "punk" put down as a form of music. He said it's more based on attitude than the type of music. I agree with him whole-heartedly. So the difference between "punk" and "emo"? Punk is what you are, emo is what you play.

^ yeah, punk isn’t just music, it’s also the person’s attitude and whatnot, but you can hardly isolate punk rock from its subculture. one wouldn’t exist without the other. so i think it’s illogical to say that punk is what you are and nothing more.

edit: let me add in that you're entitled to your opinion though. LOL. i don't want to come off as bossy or whatever, hahaha

The Killers = morons.

Has anyone even been to one of their shows? It only takes ONE show to turn you against them. They're absolutely dreadful as entertainers and have about 9 songs to offer for a headlining band. Absolutely dispicable. I mean even Fall Out Boy has 2 albums out? They're more credible than The Killers.

I also really want to punch their guitarist. That moron started throwing the deli tray at the crowd after they finished their set. sleep.gif

Yeah, I don't know what's so special about The Killers as musicians either. They don't have anything that makes them...what I consider a good band. A sound or even attitude that makes you go, "Hell yeah! I want to be you!" All they have is Brandon's good looks. Which is sad, because that's not talent at all. It could just be me, but don't The Killers just sound like a bad tribute band for The Strokes?
