how long did it take most of you to figure out what you wanted to do as a major?
Well, I knew what my major was going to be since freshman year of high school. But if you're unsure, you could apply as Undecided. Take a variety of courses and try to figure out which area you're interested in.

~get to know older students, students who took a class that you're prolly going to take, students from other majors, TAs and people who look like they're smart or at least know things
~its easier to find our easy/hard a class or professor is from a friend ^^;; helps steer away from nasty profs and hard classes.
~make sure your professor knows you (especially when your in a class of like 100+ people) it makes a difference when he/she is deciding whether its a B+ or a A- etc.
- cup noodles
standard, easy to cook food. instant gratification for a hungry stomach when youre trying to finish a 70 page paper the night before its due (yea, 70 pages... i'm a nursing major)
- coffee
same as above XD
- know what needs to be read, and what really is just crap.
trust me when i say that sometimes 60% of the "required reading" is not really needed. Read only info that you know youre going to need for tests and exams.
- know what works best for you.
~if ur a study group type of person then find a good (non chatty) study group. if your like me who likes studying by herself... find a good place to sit down and focus (i personally prefer this one secluded cubicle in the back of our school library... quiet, has AC, and nobody walks around)
~ find out if your a visual, auditory, kinetic etc. (i was a visual learner, the became a kinetic one after being a nursing student... it fits!)
- be humble and dont be afraid to talk to the prof
- live with people you can deal with

i having difficulties in some subject >_< only 16 but college student already and yet in foreign country T.T
What subjects are you having trouble with? How did you wind up in a foreign college at the age of 16??
i'm kind of worry that i won't be able to make friends. school starts in a few days, but during orientation students are beginning to make friends real quick.
any suggestion?
Don't worry about it. I don't think I really made any friends during orientation. Try talking to the people on your floor. Once you kind of know them, you can eat together. But the important thing is to just relax.

i am really quiet and shy, esp around teachers and in class. im scared about discussions and well just plain talking in college. when i talk in school i tend to speak in a soft voice which i cant control. i have confidence but when it comes time to show, i lose it ALL and i get all nervous and talk either low or really fast. any advice?
when u have to so speeches... just focus on one person...

Velocitii, most people change majors at least once. College is the time when you can explore fields and find the best for you, but let me give you a word of advice, figure out your major by the end of sophomore year or you may find yourself graduating a little late. Your first two years are mostly spent fulfilling requirements, i.e. general ed. After that point, if you switch majors you'll be accumulating classes that can only be used as electives. I would personally recommend going to the local college and testing the waters there rather than spending thousands at a uni.
Anners, take a speech class. That'll cure you. ^.~ Also, just relax and remember that everyone's got their own problems. The students will have forgotten your nervousness -if they noticed it at all- by their next lecture, lol.

I am pre-med biopsychology major this upcoming fall.
My schedule :
Chem 1A + Lab
Chin 1
Math 34A
Writ 1
Will I be behind if I don't have Bio the first year ?
The thing is that if you are talking about the basic biology classes, they are a year long sequence. I think prerequisites for biology classes differ by schools so check your handbook to make sure that you can still take the basic biology (they should offer every quarter/semester). So basic classes, you can take almost every quarter/semester.
IF you are taking about upper division, they usually require the 1st semester/quarter class of the sequence to be taken before the second/third ones so if you don't take the 1st one at the beginning of the year, you have to wait until the next year to take it.
Good luck to you.
